Recommendation for a Mattress Topper (To Suit 50+ Year Old)

Hi all,

Hope we're all doing well on this fine hump day.

I'm looking to purchase a Mattress Topper for a family member. I have had a look on Google and various eCommerce sites but as you can imagine there are heaps of options, prices and qualities so it's hard to pick.

I'm just looking to see if the OzBargain community has purchased one previously and has been happy with the quality and can recommend the brand / product.

Just a few selected criteria I'm looking to abide by:

  • To suit a 50+ year old female (so a product with better cushioning would be preferred)
  • Ideally no more than $150

Any thoughts, suggestions etc are appreciated.

Thank you in advance :)

  • Depending on the underlying mattress and the sleeper's needs, a topper might not be enough. There is only so much a topper can affect.

I've used cheap cheap ones on eBay, they are ok but introduce a level of softness that removes back support which is often sought after, so just keep that in mind.

  • I recommend microcloud. Took my pregnant wife to the lakehouse and they had them on the beds, she said they helped her sleep more comfortably. Bought one when we got home. You didn't mention the size, but they are a little more ($180-$350). I also quite like their pillows.

  • This year with summer comig up I am looking at cooling pads, for me and the pets. Search just beginning

    • What you're looking for is a wool pile topper.

  • I bought this one from Adairs - https://www.adairs.com.au/bedroom/mattress-topper/downtime/h… . It's a bit more than your preferred price but it's great to sleep on. It was a replacement for a down topper I'd bought from Pillow Talk many years earlier and the Adairs one is so much more comfortable and not as hot as the Pillow Talk topper was.

  • I have owned and operated a mattress factory for over ten years, I might know a thing or two here.

Any mattress topper out there is buying foam and putting a cover on it and jacking up the price.

If you want the best value, go to somewhere like this

    https://www.foamsales.com.au/products/foam-cut-to-size

This will be the best quality and value by miles trust me. Probably at least half the price for the same quality. More likely a third. The problem is it won't have a cover, but you can put it under the mattress protector, same same.

I looked at there website, they will be able to recommend the foam you are looking for as they do it a lot. Just ask them for advice.

Maybe tell them your body weight as different body weights require different foams..

I think you should get something 50mm thick. Queen is 152cm X 203cm

In saying all of that, the only place putting more mattress foam on top of a mattress is if it is too firm. If it's dipped, don't waste your money, it's too late, just get a new mattress.
