Pretty much as per title. Have previously done the 3 year (or near enough) deals with VPN but they all seem to be expired at the moment - even the older long running ones
Did people run into issues that make them no longer work? Anyone had recent luck?
basically I tried the old 3 year VPN trick through turkey, I was able to load 1 year of gold on but when I tried the other 2 cd keys it said I have to try again once the subscription lapses. I called Microsoft the keys were valid but I think they have caught on so the have prevented anyone loading 3 years of gold before its discontinued. the worst part is I couldn't convert it to GPU… tried like before to do it through AU xbox store it cane up with a message telling me that I need to purchase GPU from the same store I purchased gold from. using a VPN I tired Turkey still didn't work. I honestly spent days working on this even tried to get help from friends but it just didn't work out for me.
If anyone works out a good deal on GPU place share I'm devistated
My GPU has another few weeks on it so I'm curious also.
Was almost resigning to the best deal being to buying discount xbox gold cards :/

Worked for me the other day.
Grabbed 12 months gold via Turkey VPN and converted to GPU, but only gave 9 months at the conversion of 2:3?? Something like that.
Still cheaper this way but it's getting harder to do.
What's hard about what you did there? - what were the difficulties?
I thought the deal was 1:1 conversion. Your reduced amount sounds like the normal Gold to GPU conversion as opposed to the better 1:1.
I mean it seems like Microsoft is cracking down on the conversion. I did the exact same thing on a different account 2 months ago and the conversion was 12 months gold > 12 months GPU.

No that method is now gone. Your best is to buy multiple 3 month Xbox live codes while they are still around. They convert to 50 days ultimate. Which works out at a way better conversion than buying 12 month gold codes, which only converts to 4 months ultimate. Currently codes on eneba for $10.75. https://www.eneba.com/xbox-xbox-live-gold-3-month-xbox-live-… After fees it will work out at about $7 a month for ultimate. Which is still a lot better than the $16 it currently costs and will likely go up from soon.
Does this conversion rate also apply for active GPU accounts or is it only for expired/new?
Works for active. I had 18 months still to go and just extended back out to 3 years with these codes.
Just by 24 months of ultimate via india for approximately $155.00 = about $6.5 per month

hey thanks for this. its valid again just bought it. looks like they do it the old way - they sent me 4 codes - 3 x 12 months gold codes (redeem first) and 1 month ultimate (for the upgrade) - converted it into 24months + 1 for a total of 25 months.
much more expensive than the 3 years i bought 3 years ago for $140 however needed to wait for my sub to expire and they changed things around couple months ago.. lucky its still available.
is that for xbox only? or pc would work?

Did you use their suggested VPN or your own? I have PIA which has both turkey and brazil IP addresses to use.
Waiting for my account to expire on 16/11/23. Seems like cheapest option I can find currently
Tried this one for 12 months and worked. Used UrbanVPN and they sent out instructions on what to do step by step. Worked up to $90 bucks (13 months) tho since conversion is not good atm.
I wanted to try the Texas chainsaw game so I created a new microsoft account and got the 1 dollar trial for 14 days, I'm expecting to just create another once the subscription lapses and copy the save file over. Not sure if microsoft will stop me but we will see.
