Looks like Lenovo broke their shopping cart again.

For a limited time, you can get a fully spec'd Yoga Pro 9i for the price of the base model. For every upgrade I selected, the discount got bigger but the base price stayed the same, just don't touch the Microsoft Productivity software options.

ThanksDad!

This is part of Father's Day deals for 2023.

the Lenovo rep sent me a screenshot of their portal and leaked their line profit margin, which is showing as 0.33% or $6.84 for the fully spec’ed out machine.

so this is basically their cost price. with the cashback and rewards, it will be below

  • Better than the recent HP deal?

    • HP was better for gaming, it was 3080Ti !
This one has a better screen and is more lightweight.

  • +3

It'd be perfect if we could add the 4070 GPU.

    • 4090 even better

      • I think the max for this model is 4070, not available in Australia, unfortunately

  • +1

Doesnt seem to be working anymore, did i miss the boat on this one?

    • +2

Yeah. Thank the ozb lords. It was another thing I didn't need but was fighting with the buy button

  • +4

Deal is done they fixed the computer. And if you just change the CPU it adds 118 on instead of 49 so it's still broken but not in our favor.

    • just hope Lenovo won't cancel our orders.

  • Did I missed?

    Keen to get one.

  • +1

Ive been toying with buying this but glad its over now

much rather a broken PC build rather than laptop
I'd love to pay $2.2k for a $4k+ gaming PC with RTX 4090!

    • Same, but for those with salary packaging options and FBT exemptions a $2.3k laptop really costs a lot less. Maybe $1.3k…
I don't want a 16" laptop so this deal didn't suit me and I'm sure I can buy/build a better gaming rig for $1.3k anyway

      • +1

I can salary sacrifice my Gaming desktop :P

so if this was a $5k PC build @ broken cart to 2.5k and then I sacrifice so divide by 1.1 and x (1-0.39) depending on your marginal rate = $1.4k for me

        = super win!

        • nice, I wish I could. How are you able to do that?

          • @choofa: if you can sacrifice a laptop to WFH how is a desktop any different?
You just submit the invoice to HR and voila

3 years ago I did a $2k Dell G5 gaming desktop with RTX 2070 Super (deal from here ofcourse)
Now I think its time for a RTX 4080 - I'm looking at you Techfast :)

            • @ChatCPT: For most people the FBT excemption only applies for mobile devices aka Laptop and Tablet. Desktop you can claim but it'd have to be a regular tax deduction

              • @nigel deborah: yes a little extra flexibility at my place but its worth equiring them on it!
for what its worth - I do a PC/laptop + mobile + ipad + accessories each per FBT year

                • +1

@ChatCPT: Perhaps your workplace is unaware that desktops are not FBT exempt? Looking online, that seems to be a blanket rule and not something that depends on the employer.

Even if that is the case, if they told you that in writing I don't see how it could be your fault.

              • @nigel deborah: Worth looking into the otherwise deductible rule for exemptions.

You can claim investment property interest back as a salary package and be exempt from FBT.

Note I clearly write investment property interest.

            • @ChatCPT: My salary packaging explicitly states that desktop computers are excluded from the list of FBT exempt items
Portable Electronic Devices - laptop, tablet, phone, smart watch are included

              • @choofa: omg - i forgot abt the watch I bought it last year :( bit late now I think

      • Just be mindful a lot of companies outsource salary packaging options to third party.

So, there is an additional cost to this.

        • yeah I know. I'm paying for the privilege, but I'm making the most of it!
Already got the car, did the phone, laptop, watch last year, now looking to do them all again this year!
Was hoping to sneak in a gaming laptop this time

  • 16" is way too big. I got the Yoga Slim Pro 14" AMD 7 5800H, 16GB DDR5 and 512GB SSD for $1,325 in April 2022 and happy with it's size, especially for travelling

    • How's the noise level for H and does it gets warm for normal use?

      • +1

There's been no issues with excess noise or heat from my experience

  • Between the i7 and i9 there not a huge difference.

Even on the intel website both have the same.
    Total Cores 14
    Performance Cores 6
    Efficient Cores 8
    Total Threads 20
    Cache 24 MB
    Processor Base Power 45W
    Maximum Tubo Power 115W
    Minimum Assure Power 35W
    Max Memory 64GB

The only real difference is the max turbo frequency.
    5.00GHz v 5.40 GHz
and in the efficienct-core 3.70 GHz and 4.10 GHz

    • +1

it's just a better bit of silicon most likely, allowing to turbo a bit higher

  • -1

You can still get it for $2,917.00

    https://www.lenovo.com/au/en/configurator/cto/index.html?bun…

So I don't think it's even that good of a deal

    • +8

      2299 < 2917, by a significant percentage

  • Has everyone got confirmation? No cancellations at all?

  • No cancellation email as yet, status "Waiting to be shipped".

    • Same. Waiting for shipping. They did say 3 to 4 weeks

    • I got an email asking my to prove who I am, had to email a screenshot of my bank account. I thought it was a scam at first but contacted Lenovo and they confirmed it was needed.

      • how did you pay?

        • +1

Credit card, which needed two step authentication to go through. So no idea why Lenovo added this extra step. I made it clear it was highly unusual and pointed out the screenshot I was sending them was actually done in photoshop, and they accepted it.

  • My status shows shipping on 29/08/2023. Lenovo rep had no idea what I am talking about and insisted it is custom made machine and will take 3-4 weeks to ship.

    • is it showing up as ETA?

      Mine shows as

Order Status - Waiting to be shipped

Shipping Status - Standard Shipping Est. Ship Date: 29/08/2023

      • Same as yours. I did rang them and was told it’s custom build system shipping est might change.

        • Mine has estimated ship date as 16/09/2023.

      • +1

    subject: Your order has shipped!

    • +1

      same.

In case people are unaware. Lenovo places a temp hold on your card.

Then charges for each individual item. Note anything in the laptop is 1 item but any extended warranty is a separate item.

      • Could the extended warranty have been added for free or did it actually cost extra?

        • I added the 3 year warranty and it costed me extra.

    • Same, being delivered by DHL.

      • still no update, estimate deliver in 3-4 wks

  • Received money back in bank account this morning ;(

Bank says 'Pending charge from Aug 24 expired.'

    • Then got an 'Order Shipped' email. Money will probably go out of account again.

      • Are you with Up bank by any chance?

Im in the same situation. Interesting.

        • +2

Lenovo can place a temp hold on the card and then charge it later. They did it before when I ordered my Yoga 7 AMD from them last year - my card was only charged after the laptop actually shipped.

          • @eecan: Thanks!

          • @eecan: its shipped but not charged yet.

            • @pandadude: Yeah the same thing happened to me before. Wasn't sure if I was going to get a free laptop lol but they ended up charging it.

              • @eecan: My charge came through. Apprantly nab had issues show transaction from the 30th.

I should get my laptop next week.

        • Yep!

  • should i cancel this order?

    Anyone have buyers remorse?

    • After watching this review, seems like a good buy. Note the review is on the 4070 variant but everything else should still be relevant.

Deciding if I should use this or the HP Omen.

      • +1

This for productivity, omen for gaming

      • Lenovo have diffrent prodects for diffrent regins. Australia does not get a mini-led 1200 Nit display, no 4070, ports placements are different as well I think.

        • that's not true, you could order the mini-led display before. I haven't seen the 4070 before though

        • +1

Yea I realised afterwards the laptop is a completely model oops.

          This one should be relevant.

          • @ronnknee: Considering all the stock is sent from China I reckon there just charging Aussie more for lower spec laptops.

    • Depends, what will you be using it for?
      Light gaming?
If you don't need it immediately, always better to wait as tech changes pretty quick.
But if you need one now for productivity, go for it.

    • +1

Yeah mine was shipping 16/9 too but i just cancelled it. just looking closer at the specs it looks like they cheaped out on some of the specs. eg hdmi only outputs 30hz, usb is only 3.2 gen 1 for the usb A and you only get 2 of them along with 1 usb-c 4.0/thunderbolt. One of the nvme is 3.0 i mean wont make too much difference as a storage drive but why? Lastly, the battery is only 75Wh i think i would've preferred 1 nvme and had 99Wh battery. On the other hand, it does look real nice though.

      • where are you seeing that HDMI only does 30hz? the spec sheet says 4k/60Hz

        • the lenovo spec sheet https://psref.lenovo.com/syspool/Sys/PDF/Yoga/Yoga_Pro_9_16I…

          Monitor Support
Supports up to 3 independent displays (native display and 3 external monitors via HDMI® and Thunderbolt™)
          • HDMI supports up to 4096x2160@30Hz
          • Thunderbolt supports up to 7680x4320@60Hz

          • @diab0lik: that's really odd, the webpage linked shows HDMI as 4K@60Hz

I don't think it would be expected that anyone would be looking for the detailed PSREF spec sheet when shopping and take that the website is correct

Regardless it looks like the two contradict each other!

            • @peter05: Which website is this? maybe i got the wrong spec sheet? the review here also mentions its hdmi 1.4b https://www.notebookcheck.net/Lenovo-Yoga-Pro-9i-16-laptop-r…

              • @diab0lik: Just the one from Lenovo, but the live webpage sales brochure page

                • @peter05: oh ok i see it now. maybe someone who has received their unit can verify. i decided to get the legion slim 7i instead of this as it has most of the things i want. more/better usb ports, bigger battery, proper arrow keys and matte screen. its also only a little bit bigger. sucks that the legion has 16gb of soldered ram though.

  • +3

Just received it today. Perfect timing for father's day present.
Waiting for the receiver to open it and test it out.

                • @mgreaves: Looking at the tracking, it has reached Sydney on Saturday morning. I am guessing that it will be delivered this coming Monday or by latest Tuesday. Hope that hleps.

                  • @Sydneyr: Thanks for that it's quite helpful…if mine ships on the 25th I'm good, a day or two later I may not be here 🤣😡

                    • @mgreaves: The shipment has now moved to delivery today, Sun 10:15-12:15pm. Amazing to have a courier deliver on a Sunday. Hope I see it soon!

                      • @Sydneyr: My laptop has been received. Fantastic to have this delivered on a Sunday!

  • Does anyone have instructions or info on how to optimise the laptop?

  • +1

Got mine today. Was delivery to dhl location yesterday. I suspect these are sent in bulk

  • Does anyone know when we get the Lenovo rewards credit?

Also what we can use it for?

    • Can't remember how long it takes to get the rewards credit but you can use it on anything in the store.

Either buy something outright for $0 or discount it

  • For any Perth people here, I may be looking to cancel my order (ETA shipped on 16/09/2023 - I received confirmation (on phone) that it's highly likely it'll ship on this date, with estimated arrival by 28th September 2023). If someone from Perth is keen on this laptop, happy to get it and sell for the purchase price ($2,299). Let me know within the next 24hours as I'll be looking to cancel it tomorrow. Cheers.

Edit: Here are the specs of the one I've ordered.

    • Update: I ended up not being able to cancel the order so it shipped and was delivered. Laptop still in the box, unopened, so if any Perth person missed out and wants to buy this off me ($2,299), let me know. I'm leaving oversees on 4th October, so only got a week left to settle the deal.

      Cheers all.

  • Did this laptop come with a Lenovo Pen?

If not, has anyone tried using a Lenovo pen( or Mod Pen) on the touch screen?

    • From the ones I've ordered for work, no pen unfortunately.

Need to try the generic Lenovo pens Ive got to see how it goes though

      • I would really appreciate if you could, i will be buying it at a less of a discount and the lenovo sales team are unsure. I use it for study so its a deal breaker. Cheers!

        • the yoga pros don't work with pens and they don't fold out to become tablets either, lenovo sort of used the wrong lineup name really…
