Extras Cover for Physio after Knee Surgery

I recently had a Knee reco (ACL repair) which means I will be seeing a Physio regularly for a while to rehab my knee. In order to save some money I was looking into getting some Extras cover.

I've never had Private Health cover before so I have a few questions I'm hoping someone here can help with.

Do I judge which plan is best by how many sessions the cap would cover or by how big the rebate is?

I've been searching and so far the only insurance company that waives the wait time is AHM, wondering if anyone knows any others. I'm in my late 30s so the ones that waive the wait time when you get hospital and extras cover would be too expensive for me.

Any other things I should keep in mind when choosing a provider?

Pre-existing condition, you won't get coverage.

I don't think OP is asking for the surgery to be covered… But could be wrong

      • Yeah, already had the surgery, just wanting cover for Physio.

He'll be covered for physio. Pre existing is for surgery, which is not what op is asking

Heads up, you might also be eligible for the 5 'free' allied health services (inc. physio), although there are some requirements to access this.

Beyond that, best of luck with the recovery~ I'm not much help with Extra's info.

    • Thanks mate, already used my 5 free sessions pre surgery unfortunately.

  • Ask if you get the cover immediately - I seriously think they will want you to wait six months as this is a pre-existing situation, even for extras.

    • All the ones I've seen so far are 2 months wait, some waive that if you get hospital and Extras cover but that's too expensive for me. The only exception so far seems to be AHM who don't have a wait for Physio.

      • That's the one you'll have to go with.

        • Yeah, seems that way, just wanted to make sure I hadn't missed anything.

I've never seen a plan where it's worth to get for one service only. For one service, with gap payments per visit and the monthly premium, it's better to just pay directly.

    • I did some maths after your comment, and if I go with the AHM deal it will be worth it only for a max of 6 months, after that, I start losing money.

I assume it's possible to sign up for 5-6 months and then switch after I hit my cap for Physio so that I can start fresh?

      • Your claimed amounts are passed between insurers each calendar year

        • Oh, so if I hit the cap with one insurer that cap amount will carry over if I churn to another provider in the same calendar year?

@BarginHunter: Yes, when you churn they pass those details to each other automatically same as when they tell each other you've already served the waiting period.

  • if you live in Melbournes West OP send me a private msg ill sort you out
