Looking for a good ~13.4 inch laptop for ~$400

I'm looking for a laptop for my dad. I've seen the Lenovo deal, but I was turned off it because of people's complaints about the trackpad.

Thanks friends!

  • The MSI below is a 13.3". It has a AMD Dual-Core E450 Processor which is not as good as the I3 in the Lenovo (though might use less power?), but does come with a 2 year, pick up and return warranty.

Edit: I just noticed the MSI has a 4 cell battery so it might not last more than about 3 or 4 hours compared to the Lenovo's up to 7 or so.

  • +2

The Lenovo is good. Yeah, the trackpad is a bit dissapointing but I got fairly used to it. It's not as bad as it seems — the good outweight the bad by a huge margin:

6:30 hour battery life (real life)
    Comfortable to type on
    Fairly good build quality
    Looks stylish
    Fast boot time
Always on USB port lets you keep charging your device even when laptop is off.
Has an MSATA slot for SSD upgradability.
    E-SATA port for external drives

You won't find a similar performance laptop for $399 delivered.

    • +1 for Lenovo Thinkpad Edge E320/330. Solid build quality and great value specs. Trackpad isn't that bad. Then again, trackpoint nub is superior, so why worry about trackpad at all? ;)

    • +1

Another +1 to ThinkPad E320 deal here. One MAIN problem I find with Lenovo's TrackPoint nub thing is that once you get used to it, you'll hate to use a trackpad, which means it would limit you to buy only Lenovo (or some highend Dell Latitude or Toshiba Tecra which also have inferior implementation of that pointing device).

      • Oh man…the Dell Latitude's we have at work have such infuriating trackpoint implementations after using Thinkpads for so long. Thank goodness a batch of new Thinkpad T430's and X230's are headed our way haha.

  • I have a like new Dell Laptop E4310….hardly used..If keen email me and will send you spec..at [email protected]

  • I'm not sure if you're only specifically looking for 13.3in laptops but I thought this was decent?

msy has same deal but does not come with the extra 2gb ram. am also unsure how you'd feel about cashback promotions

    • Thanks for the suggestion, but I'm lookin specifically for a ~13.4 inch laptop. My dad doesn't like big laptops; he says they're too uncomfortable to use.

  • This Asus 14" was just posted for $288 at MLN: http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/79775
