Porting Issues from Aussie Broadband to Boost

Update as of 4th Sept : finally got the email that my ABB has closed, so this took exactly 1 week to resolve.

Update as of 1st Sept : still not resolved, Telstra/Boost are saying its ported successfully, ABB saying my service is still active and not cancelled and that I shouldn't cancel incase it actually messes up my number completely as the port is not successful on their end.

Like many others, I've been on a sim churning bandwagon and havent paid much for a phone plan in a good while.

Jumped on Aussie Broadband 2 months free (postpaid) for both my husband and I, although I signed up on the 30th June and 2nd September, they've already generated a $87 bill for September :| so quickly jumped onto porting over to Boost.

Ported over our numbers, and about 4 hours later I received the success email for my number. However, my old sim is still active to my number, and so is the Boost sim! So both sim cards are working with the same numbers. I'm receiving texts to the Boost sim and calls from the Telstra network, but my husband's calls are going to the ABB sim. ABB sim card can still call and text with my number. Telstra have raised a case that can take 2-3 business days to resolve but if I close the ABB sim, is it going to mess up my number? I'm pretty attached to my number lol. ABB and Telstra have both confirmed that my numbers are active within their services.

Husband's port is also stuck, apparently theres no issues but it just wont go through and they've also raised a case and said 2-3 business days.

ABB said its prorated so hopefully I won't have to pay too much, but at ~$2 a day probably negated all the profits I got from jumping around. Will probably just spring to a yearly plan after this :(

Anyone have any suggestions? Not sure if I should cancel my number from ABB since its like..halfway ported.

I have also asked Telstra if it would help if I transferred the sim to another spare blank Boost sim I have, they said no it wont fix the issue.

    Anyone have any suggestions?

    Call their support number?

    • I have? Telstra said they cant tell me if cancelling my ABB will mess up my number, ABB said its to do on Telstra's end.

Telstra has confirmed that the issue is on their end

      • Why are you calling Telstra when you are porting between Aussie Broadband to Boost ?

        • Boost/Telstra, Telstra was the one that sent me the text to call them about the port.

          • @MeesusEff: Contact Boost and see if they can sort it out.

I find them more responsive than Telstra.

Telstra and Boost are different companies.

            • @jv: Hmm, I'll give it a few more hours to tick over the 24 hour mark for his number and then try calling again. But Telstra already raised cases for both instances, they'd probably just tell me to wait for a resolution :(

              • @MeesusEff: It they don't resolve it quickly, just contact the TIO.

They've always sorted out problems I've had with Telstra relatively quickly and easily.

                • @jv: I would get pretty pissy if it takes longer than 2 days since it's a $50pm plan each, how long would you think is a reasonable time frame?

                  • @MeesusEff:

how long would you think is a reasonable time frame?

                    a few hours

                    • @jv: I did get an email saying 'sorry it's taking longer than expected' to port my husband's number, no updates on mine but below commenter said there's issues with Boost port ins.

Just had a lightbulb moment to downgrade the ABB plans to the $15pm ones so 50c a day each isn't as bad as $2 lol

@jv: Boost's customer service IS handled by Telstra

      Lesson learnt
Dont be a cheap skate with mobile plans
Jumping around from one plan to another to save a handful of dollars has its problems and is false economy too.
You could also be stuck with poor reception with some providers depending on where you live and where you go.
Just pick the best long expiry plan that works best for you and be done with it

If you signed with Boost isn't their job to port and close with AB?
I wouldn't worry about it and lay blame on them when they eventually F it all up.
    Just keep the success emails

    • I doubt they would pay for the ABB charges though lol, and if they 'credited' me it would probably mean I have to buy something direct from them.

I only got 1 success email from them which is my weird double number. Still nothing for my husband's number. Been 22 hrs so far

Yupp, I've never understood the sim-hopping thing, especially if the number is necessary (for work etc)

    • Haha true, I did get a good run from this but this problem is just super odd to me. No work, I just like the sound of the number 😂

  • How long has it actually been? Last time or two I did a sim port it did actually take 24 hours to go over properly, even though I think I got a message saying its ported over as well. Inbetween that time I was still getting messages to the original sim but could call from the new one etc.
Hopefully its the same, just a waiting game?

    • 22 hours for husband - advised it was stuck but there should be 'no issues' with the account number and dob verification so they don't know why it got stuck or is taking so long

I activated mine 22 hours ago as well, got the success email 18 hours ago. But at 11pm last night got a text from Telstra that there was an issue with the port and to call ASAP. Called this morning and they also didn't know what's going on with my number but said it's an issue on their end.

Hopefully it's the same. I'll wait til it ticks over 24 hours and then call someone. Just sucks as ABB is postpaid so I'm getting charged in the meantime. Don't think I'd do postpaid again

      • I'm a self-confessed sim slut but I wouldn't touch a postpaid plan with a 6-ft pole. The comfort in knowing that it's never going to cost me more than what I've paid is priceless.

        • Yup, we don't need our phones to make calls and rarely text so don't mind if it expires for a bit on a prepaid. Never again!

    • 4 days on so far, still no resolution. I'm getting paypal OTP's and stuff to the old sim so i cant cancel as they cant confirm whether those calls and texts currently going to the old sim would go to the new as somethings clearly not right with the porting

  • I have succesfully ported two numbers from AussieBB to Boost few hours ago. My first attempt failed so i had to try second time and it took about 10-15 minutes.

    • Did you get billed early? My heart dropped when I got the $87 bill but I knew I didn't port in until the 30th so I was pretty annoyed

      • No i havent recieved any invoices from them. My 2 months was running out in 5 days time.

        • Yeah I thought I had a few days left as I was 30th and my husband was 2nd. But they just changed my billing date to 28th and 'credited' me the days instead??

Urgghhh just realised I could have downgraded the plan instead so it'll be 50c a day instead

There has been a high severity incident which was stopping port ins to work. The system was only restored a couple of hours ago, I’m guessing ops was impacted by this

If you want me to check, pm me the numbers

    • I just got this email, but I'll pm you anyway :)

There’s been a delay in activating your new Boost SIM. We’re working on it and you don’t need to do anything right now.

We’re sorry for the inconvenience and we’ll let you know by email when your SIM is active

    • Please see my post below - gives solution- maybe pass onto boost CS as a “troubleshooting “ faq

  • I'm porting current number to Boost. Anyone know if I need to ring Boost and cancel port to be able to Port to another provider? Anyone know how it takes to port to Felix?

    I have SOLUTION!!!!
This happened last week to my friend.
After HOURS (days) a simple phone call to telstra gave answer.

On your PHONE - if you go to PHONE in settings you’ll find a “MY NUMBER” it’ll have the wrong number…. Just manually change it .
iPhone- but assuming android will have similar.

    • Both sims have the same phone number and making calls and texts with the same number

  • Husbands number has ported over last night, but my double up is still not fixed yet

  • Called Boost about my number and they advised another 24-48 hour wait -.- lucky I managed to downgrade the ABB plan
