Please recommend me a Reverse Camera for my car?

My wife has requested that I install a reverse camera on to her Honda Odyssey.

Can anyone please highly recommend me a reverse camera that they installed themself? or recommend an installer they were happy with?

How much should I be looking to pay?

thanks in advance, Cheap Steve

I have my camera for about 50$ including display and all wires from ebay.
It's color wide angle camera with IR night vision. But it's still useless.

    Don't waste time and money.
    Teach her to park.
I had parktronic as stock option on one my car and parking assistance radar as after market option on another before, now I have DIY camera and I can tell that nothing can replace your own skills.

    • Thanks for feedback. My wife wants this reverse camera as a birthday present so I have to deliver!

  • i'm also interested to see if you get any information on this thread

i'm in the market as well, for both wife and mum.

ebay has plenty, and from what i see, looking around $100-200 for a decent one (i choose to buy australian only sellers, as they offer warranty)

go for a wireless kit, so you don't have to run wiring from the boot area to the front area.
installation is easy enough if you are handy with your tools. mostly just cutting and taping up.

    • I've had a couple of wireless ones from ebay and I really don't recommend them. The picture quality is terrible over wireless. It's very prone to inteferance and after a while they stopped working altogether. I considered getting a proper wired on installed but it was too much of a hassle dropping the car off at an installer as none of them are close to me.

  • I got one installed in my van. Wide-angle colour plus UV light for night. Wired, not wireless.
The camera is rugged, can withstand pressures of more than a thousand psi, so it can cope with being pressure-sprayed.
Works great! Can reverse park to within centimetres now, even when it is pitch black outside.

I didn't get a cheapie from ebay since I considered such an exercise would be a total waste of time, but got an auto electrics place to install one of their systems for me. Total cost a bit north of $600 including installation. But you get what you pay for!
If I had to do it again, would request a white camera instead of black so it blends into the back of my van a bit better.

post-edit: got it done in Hobart.

  • thanks meroveus.
thats good advice, probably the old addage, 'you get what you pay for' applies!

did you get this done in melbourne?
    thanks
