Should I Wait for iPhone 15 Pro or 14 Pro?

So, I'm on the fence on whether I should purchase the iphone 14 pro or the 15 pro due to price differences.

I can get the iphone 14 pro for essentially $1272 (10% price match from jb - $1570, 10% gc's $1500 worth, $143 in gst for tourist refund scheme for my upcoming trip)

Or 15 pro for $1537 (10% gc's assuming new msrp is going to be $1899 - $1709, $173 in gst refund)

Not 100% sure what the best idea is.

Bro it’s right around the corner judging from previous years release dates.

You’re dropping over 1k on a phone just get the absolute latest imo ( I say this as someone who had a 13 pro and upgraded to a 14 pro on release)

    • yeah sept 13

iPhone 14 will drop in price once 15 is announced/released. Doesn't make sense to buy now.

Also, Vodafone offer $1,100 off iPhones with a 2-year $79 contract which turns out to effective $33/month. Worth considering.

$1,100 off retail price of the phone, which is about $250 more than the price OP is talking about for a 14 Pro. So effectively it's paying $525 a year for a mobile plan on Vodafone.

Which could be worse (and a lot easier to do than dealing with gift cards and price matching) but it's not awesome.

      • The iPhone 14 range has been pretty disappointing.
Apple basically decided to sleep it off a year, and to let the Android competitors catch up a bit.

You absolutely SHOULD wait for the iPhone 15.
It is going to be an upgrade similar to the one from the iPhone 5 to the 5S, or the 6+ to the 6S+, or from the likes of the iPhone Xmas to the iPhone 11 Max. You'll notice that one of those devices was left behind whilst the other kept getting updates. That was enabled by the drastically improved processor.

I also say the same thing to Android users. The latest QC 8g2 is not a great chipset. It just "seems great" because the industry has been lagging for so long, the QC 8g1, QSC 888, and QSD 870 variants from 2020-2023. The QC 8g2 is a bit faster than a midrange chipset, the QC 7g2+ just to put that into context for you. We will finally see a big upgrade in 2024 with the QC 8g3, since it will combine a (Cortex-A730) new architecture AND a new process node (TSMC-3nm). For Android it's like the upgrade from the OnePlus 2 to the OnePlus 3, or the Google Pixel 3 to the Pixel 4XL, or perhaps even the Sony Xperia 5 mk 4 to the mk V. The point is, the chipset is not everything, but it is important.

Hmm in the meantime, your existing iPhone inexplicably starts to get slower…

  • The iPhone 15 will likely be similar to the iPhone 14 Pro, only cheaper and with a USB-C port. I'd hold off.

Personally I'm diving in on the 15 Pro this year, sounding like it's the first major upgrade in a while.

  • I'm still using my iPhone 11 - no battery deg, still quick enough for what I do. Hanging out for the 16 Pro which will have the periscope camera lens; in the 15 range that lens will only be available in the Pro Max which is a bit big for my liking.
Also I read recently that while the announcement will be in Sept, the phones may not start shipping until mid to late October, due to the shortage of some part. May just be a rumour but worth checking into if you plan on holding out for the 15.

  • Get the 15 Pro Max, it'll have a much better battery life and the telescopic lens.

  • Neither. Stop giving the ghost of Steve Jobs money.

  • USB-C.

  • Is your current phone in working order? If it is whats the hurry.
