Thoughts? Will you still be buying PS Plus and if so which tier?

I'll probably downgrade from deluxe to extra as I don't even play the game trials or classic games that they've offered over the course of my subscription. I'm just not sure whether to wait for Boxing Day as they usually have a promotion that might undercut the current prices.

That is a pretty significant hike!!! :(

  • My option to subscribe for Essential is currently $79.95 - I imagine the above prices are USD, so AUD will be even more :(

  • Built my PC and my PS starts collecting dust. Imma pass now for this subs.

Australian prices are going to be:
    PlayStation Plus Essential 12-Month Subscription
    $95.95 AUD (was $79.95 AUD)
    PlayStation Plus Extra 12-Month Subscription
    $169.95 AUD (was $134.95 AUD)
    PlayStation Plus Premium 12-Month Subscription
    $196.95 AUD (was $154.95 AUD)

    • Not bad considering the exchange rate at the moment, Premium should have gone up about another $50 on top of that (and that's before considering GST).

    • Frick me. And it doesn't even have Starfield…

  • anyone doing via turkey/argentina ??

    • Someone here recently got banned and lost 5 years of subscription

  • My PS Plus Essential expired and I didn't even realise it. The games in my stash to play are single player, so no big loss. I'm not seeing much reason to pay at the moment.

I'm the same, my PS Plus has lapsed and seeing the increase in price I'm not running to re-subscribe.

Quite a significant price increase with no real justification. They didn’t add anything or sweeten the deal in any way. Just a whacking great increase from next week. Shocking.

Hopefully there’ll be a significant Black Friday discount more than the usual 25% off which doesn’t even cover the PS+ Extra increase…

  • Glad I stacked up a few years' worth when they were on sale a few months ago

  • 3 years of Gamepass + 5 years of PS+.
Inflation was inevitable so stocking up was essential.
    This is the way.

  • Almost $100 for online only. Wtf.

  • This is pretty mental. Hopefully someone smart discovers a new way of stacking up on those sweet Turkish prices. I have another year left but I won't be renewing in AUD for these prices.

  • Damn, I already wasn't subscribing because I found it too exy. Now with this hike, fuggetaboutit!

  • +1

assuming we still get 25% discounts during black friday etc.

New discounted price for Extra tier would be $127.46, which is just around $7 cheaper than its current normal price

    • Thanks for doing the maths. I figured it would be better to wait for the discount than pay ahead now.

I'll probably downgrade from Extra anyway.

  • I stacked already until Dec 2028 so I'm good ha

My sub runs out in November, won't be renewed unless i get offered the standard 50% discount for lasped subs when ever that happens. Don't really care much for the "free games" every month so no real biggie for me

"will enable us to continue bringing high-quality games and value-added benefits" In other words, you are charging more for the exact same thing you have been doing. People get paid for writing this stuff. OHOH, it's been $80 forever so maybe we are probably overdue for an increase.

The base subscription for $95 is basically the cost of having a playstation, but is it worth $74 extra for the library, that's a tougher sell given my backlog of PS and PC games and the fact I can buy disks second hand for a lot less than that and sell them on when I'm done. If Sony think they are going to make more money doing this, I think they might be in for a rude shock when people start making cost of living cuts.

The biggest benefit to the Extra is with multiplayer games. Being able to say to a friend 'hey lets try this, it's included' and nobody has to buy anything to try something out. OTOH I have a backlog of these too.

That's an interesting response to Starfield from Sony.

Posted this back in may on another deal but for those interested, should still apply!

"For PS+ Black Friday or similar offering a 20%-25% discount along with discounted gift cards would be best way to stack onto an Aussie PS account.

I did this last year and stacked ps+ when it was 25% off at eb games using 15% ultimate him cards.

The trick if you were interested in extra/deluxe tier was to stack up as much ps+ essential as you could and then upgrade as there was a cap for how much it would charge you to upgrade to the deluxe tier, $135 - $185 can't remember exactly.

The maximun you could stack was 15 years of ps+ I believe, (could be mistaken) so upgrading to the deluxe tier on an account that had anywhere from 3 years to 15 years of ps+ stacked would only cost $135 or $185, due to the pricing cap.

Now it is cheaper to go with a Turkey account but for the workaround with payment methods and being at the mercy of sony shutting down that loophole, I don’t know if the savings are worth it for me. For a little bit more, the peace of mind could be worth it. All ps+ games you claim are tied to that account so if you lose access to a ps+ account not being able to make a payment, there goes that.

Hope this made sense and helps in any way, if not, that's cool too, have a good day :)"

BTW I got 15 years of ps plus premium doing this for around $750-$850ish in total, which included gift cards I had so only had to spend $400 out of pocket! :)

Hope this info isn't irrelevant here…

Considering inflation that's a good way to do it. However, this assumes the subscription models will be respected for the next 15 years and you'll also be using the features of the subscription for the next 15 years.

      • This is very much true and while I agree, it was worth the gamble since in my specific instance, it only cost me $400ish out of pocket after gift cards I already had for 15 years of premium, which it seems now that if I had waited would cost me almost $200 a year in itself.

P.s. been a gamer since the early 90s, have every varation of xbox, nintendo and playstation and don't intend on stopping anytime soon. So it was a no brainer for my senario. But I completely understand what you are saying.

Sadly the capped price upgrading is also now gone - my subscription which goes to the year 2030, is now $805 to upgrade to deluxe, rather than the previous $186 upgrade price. I guess I will stick with the essential PSPlus now.

      • Damn had no idea, but was sure it wasn't going to be around forever, so I jumped on it while I could.

To be fair ps premium so far hasn't been that great and without the upgrade cap of $186, I have to say that at the now new price it definitely is not that worth it, but that's just me! Hopefully sony turn it around within 15 years for me to feel like i really got some good value haha :p

        • It is ok, I had plenty of opportunity to upgrade previously, I just didn't see much value in the upper tiers during that time. Not sure if they will re-introduce a cap again in the near future, since the current situation makes moving up the plans now somewhat prohibitive for those with a number of stacked years. Time will tell i guess.

Worst part about this is the paywall Sony has on save data management. I didn’t realise until recently that PS5 game saves can’t be backed up locally to a hard drive. Essentially forcing people to subscribe to Essential for cloud saves. Savage from Sony

Extra going up $26.25 when on 25% off sale, could be worse. Not the end of the world

  • I won't renew my plan when it expires in November. Maybe a Black Friday deal for Essential, but that's a big IF depending if a game requires it.

  • Just received the email. They are very cheeky, they won't allow you to prepay at cheaper price because they said the new price takes effect if you make changes to your account including buying time.

  • Should note that many regional storefronts with cheaper prices also have had price hikes, usually on a much bigger margin than Western prices, seems pretty obvious they're cracking down on VPN usage for regional pricing.

  • Ridiculous. It was already expensive as it is. I don't give a f about the games that come with plus, I just want to play the games I own online ffs. They should have a cheaper tier for people like me lol.

My sub expires in November and I definitely won't be renewing unless there's an offer/sale at some point.

    • It was pretty ridiculous that online on console was charged for in the first place and just accepted for so long, especially putting it next to PC where it's always been free. Thanks to Xbox for normalising it and PS & Nintendo following suit.

  • Turkey ps plus has gone form 460 lira for deluxe to 2070! lira
