  • Does this stack with private health fund? With optical extra?

    • Last time it was the same deal on, you could.

  • -2

They take the piss on add-ons like higher index lens though

    • +1

well you can definitely decline all those add ons , just need to expect having a thick , heavy and more distorted vision glasses

  • Does the existence of Single-Vision Glasses imply that double vision glasses exist? If so, why would anybody want them??

    • +2

kind of, which is otherwise called multifocal/bifocal, those work like combining reading and normal script together so you dont need to switch glasses

      • Is that the one with a horizontal line across?

        • +2

          horizontal line across = "bifocal"
similar function but without the obvious line = "multifocal"

        • +2

those are the older lens which they now only offer them to older populations who are used to the lens or people with special needs.
the newer ones doesnt have that line anymore

Some stores also have concurrent promo “20% off lens options”! Can stack. Saw yesterday at The Glen store.

  • I think this is a good deal but isn't it basically a permanent deal? I obviously don't visit Specsavers every day but whenever I look at them it always seems like they're advertising this '2 for 1' deal. I thought it was like how EB Games always pretends they're in the middle of a huge sale. Do I have it wrong?

I'm asking because I need new glasses and was thinking of putting it off a couple of months. Is this '2 for 1' deal a real thing I need to take advantage of right now?

    • +1

2 for 1 is normal but this seems to be 2 for 1 of any price for 199$. Personally I seem to always get the $249 or $299 ones so it is better than the normal 2 for 1.

      • Thanks for that.

I see now that I also misunderstood the deal posted and that it's even better than I thought. Just to explain it more clearly for any other dummies like me, they have the usual '2 for 1' deal and it automatically adds that deal to your cart. That's where I thought the deal ended but no! Add the 'ANYTWO' promo code and both pairs will come to $199. Even if you add two $400 pairs of glasses to your cart, it only comes to $199.

I already ordered new glasses but this deal makes me feel like going back and getting another two. I guess what I really want to do is get two of the most expensive pair no matter goofy they might look, just so I get the best deal. But that's obviously not the way to choose glasses…

        • +1

I bought some today but the annoying thing is the two that suited me where $199 pairs. So annoying as normally it's a $249 or $299. I really wanted to like more expensive ones to get a better deal but no luck.

  • I'm wearing glasses with mutifocal (to correct my vision for near, middle and far distance) and so called special (occupational) lens (for close and middle range distance like working with laptop and external monitor). With the help of Specsavers staff, they suggested me to select the most expensive frame (the rimless, $399 / 2pairs then, and $199 now) because this model include most of the coatings needed (thin+light, super clean, blue light filter etc. except reactive and polarised lens option). I ended up choosing super digital (it has widest area for reading at the bottom part of the lens) and similar for my occupational lens. Still I have to pay $350+ out of pocket - however, if I selected cheaper frame, I have to pay $450+ to get two pairs of glasses with similar lenses.

    • Do you have to get the same lens extras on both the pairs?
Can the occupational lens be used to read books as well?
      Thanks.

      • +1

Do you have to get the same lens extras on both the pairs?

No. You can add some lens extras (for example, tinted) on one pair of glasses only, because they charge lens extras by pair (earlier this year they have better promotion - any 2 pairs for $199 PLUS 30% discount for lens extras). But because the $399 frame comes with free some lens extras I need, I didn't add any additional extras).

Can the occupational lens be used to read books as well?

Yes - so my occupational lens works similar to bifocal lens, I can use it for reading (approx distance 30cm) and looking at the monitor (50cm) but I cannot see things at the distance. This more comfortable for work because it has wider space for both distance (compared with the multifocal - they divided the lens into three areas for near, middle and distance). I can use single vision lens but it is more comfortable using occupational lens because the power for looking at the monitor is less than the one for reading.

        Hope this help!

        • Thank you very much @Lomax. That was super helpful.

        • can you let us know how these new glasses work for you once you get them @Lomax ?

          • @shmahoo: Sure. Still waiting for the new glasses - they said it will take 3-6weeks to arrive.

          • +1

@shmahoo: Got the pair of glasses just now.

The multi focal glasses is as expected - good for looking at three different distances (almost) seamlessly (well, sometimes you have to tilt your head to use the rhight part of the glasses - for example, you cannot just move your eyes to look down while standing up to see what is on the floor - but you have to tilt your head down so you will use the upper part of the lenses designed to help you see the far distance).

And I love the occupational lens (so called multi focal but for near and medium distance only) - it is better than my old reading glass when I use it to look at my monitors (about an arm length). When I use reading glass to look at the monitor, it is bit too strong (too bright?) compared with the new one. If you need multi focal and working in front of couple screen for quite long time, better to get this occupational lens rather than single vision lens - at least you will be able to see something / someone in medium distance (I have bad vision and if I forgot to change glasses and wearing my old reading glasses, I couldn't see the face if someone standing three metres from me).

Anyway, if you have two for one price promotion, the price will be the same if you order one multi focal and one single vision or both multi focal (that what Specsavers staff told me).

            Hope this help!

  • These include the rimless ultralight that come with Ultrathin and UV protection which are usually an extra $90 each ($180 for both).

Turns out if the glass price included lens extras on the original price they are included in the offer.

    • I went to one of the stores and was told the 399 range rimless type are not included in this promo. In fact they no longer display it and kept them in drawer, only show you when you ask and the promo doesnt apply.

      • So I actually went in store and was told the same thing.
        Initially.

The lady there went to checkout with them to see the final price with lens add-ons and all that and the priced automatically went to $199.

She was surprised but one of her colleagues confirmed that they are included in it. You could ask them to try checkout and get the final price. AFAIK the systems automated through their iPads so I'm not sure why one store would be different to another.

Mine arrived yesterday, try a different store I'd say.

        • Are these the glasses that are called “ultralight” cos I can see a lot of them on the website. Or is it specific variants of the ultralights?

          • @18: It's the ones that don't have a frame, they're the ones that are $399
