The best thing about Hero Quest is…

      • Look at the muscularity!

  • +3

Played this as a kid like 15 years ago. Sudden hit of nostalgia :)

    • +1

I still remember the TV ads

    • I got it when I was like 9. Never understood how to play it. To this day I still don’t know.

      • It now has an app so you can play it solo… who needs pesky friends when you can have a faceless dungeon master

Ahh, tis a good price but we all know it'll just end up in the closet, unopened.

      Nuh-uh, this time is different!

    • +2

      You don't know me! :(

    • I've opened my Jaws of the Lion. That's as far as it has gotten.

    • +1

It shouldn't. It's not a hard game to play and is fun. Where as I've played eldritch horror, and other love craft games, and sometimes I just go fuk it! Complexity can be a killer and can take a whole day too..

  • Get it!
There’s so many expansions available now also, my two kids (8,11) love it!

Mind you, we have the AU tax here, it’s £62 in the UK right now and I bought one at £54 late last year

  • Is it nerfed vs the hasbro "Kickstarter" version?

    • Hasbro had two versions…
This is the standard version (doesn’t include the ‘mythic’ quests)

      • I played this as a kid. How does it compare to modern titles in the genre? For reference I have:

        KDM
        Oathsworn
        Descend (2E)
        Gloomhaven
        Massive Darkness 1&2
        Sword & Sorcery AC

.. probably some other crawlers I've forgotten.

        • I would consider HeroQuest to be the Monopoly of RPGs. Don't get me wrong, loved it as a kid, and have had fun playing it with my daughters, but objectively its mechanics are pretty bad. The balance is pretty terrible, fights can be cheesed, yet also RNG heavy. Not a lot of strategy involved either; aside from choosing where to fight you've really got no options for strategy. The magic is pretty limited too; spells are fixed, and half of them are situational too.

Once again, I do still like the game, but there are far better games as far as mechanics go.

      What a banger of a game/series.

      • I must be dumb. Never got far except in the first one.

  • Still got the game at my mum's house from when I was a kid 👌

    • I had it and three expansions and I tossed them in the bin for some reason. Oops!

  • Deal is over. $177 now

    • Updated, as Prime membership is required.

Not sure about the game, here's a cracking review why its the best game ever. Who knew that it could be used to stop Mormons!

    • Exceptional. How have I never seen this before?!
Man, he holds up a Necromunda box in there… I loved that game. So many memories

Don't forget to get 3 copies so you can play Fortress O' Peril and Gravity Land.

    • This is the way

  • jeepers was the original this expensive back in the 90s ?

    • +2

      the original was $50

    • Nothing like this was the same price 30 years ago.

Today's $150 would be ~$65 in 1990. Also the market was different.

Just be warned, the quality of this set is pretty terrible. I bought it a year or so ago, and at least half of the minis are bent, some so badly they won't even stand properly. I'm still happy to have it, and enjoy playing it with my kids, but if you're hoping for high quality minis and taking the time to paint them, etc., just be prepared to be disappointed.

    • +2

New version comes with better packaging where the black plastic doesn't have a death grip on the minis. Quality issues are from the Kickstarter…

Also you can fix it so easily, dip them in boiling water, they will go back to shape, then simply run them under cold tap. All mine are fixed and it took maybe an hour.

      • +1

I tried the boiling water trick with mine; they still don't go back to shape.

If there's new packaging though then that's good to hear for those buying now.

  • Had the original as a kid with a couple of the expansion packs. Pretty sure my parents threw them out.

  • Shame, this is no longer $150. I really dislike Amazons price changes as an item becomes popular over a short period of time

    • +1

It went OOS, you are seeing the price of the Amazon US import listing

Ahh that makes a lot more sense, thank you for the explanation
