Buyer beware. Item is faulty. Had to return mine after a year.

    • Thanks. What Powerbank that's airline friendly do people recommend?

Been happy with baseus blade. I have the 100w 20000mah version, but there is a new blade hd which is a bit shorter. And they just announced the blade 2 at ifa

        • I looked it up on eBay and it looked good, then decided to check OzBargain. Holy sh*t what a piece of junk for so many people

        • Anything with flat lipo cells are a bad idea for a power bank.

Don't buy the baseus blade models, they won't lasr very long either as they aren't rated for as many charge cycles as most banks.

        • +1

I was happy with mine - it now won't hold a charge. It'll report charging to 100%, but then you try and use it and it drops straight to 0% after a few minutes.

          • @chossenger: That's the thing with flat lipo cells and subsequently the charge monitoring system for them.

You won't know what your battery cell life is (I'm talking specifically for battery banks, more advanced electronics like phones can utilize methods to better guesstimate cell life), they behave similarly to how in phones with dying batteries that appear to be charged to 100%, but then drop to like 5% in a few minutes of use, they don't show their true capacity.

Except it's a lot more sudden, you won't know when they're dying, until they're dead.

Good reason alone to avoid super slim, flat lipo based battery banks.

        ZMI no20

They're available for around 120 on aliexpress or 160 on Amazon which sometimes are on sale for 130.

I can go into more detail but tldr it's the best bank that money can buy that's also bang for buck ive tested over amongst nearly 250 battery banks. It's high quality and will last a few years with very heavy use, and likely even more if you aren't going through all the juice every single day.

It's also the highest possible capacity you can carry on planes legally.

        • How did you test so many ?

      • Kinda old now but I've been using the ZMI QB822 for quite a while and it's never missed a beat. I only use it for mobile phone (15w) and switch charging though, so nothing like some of the higher power options available now

    • Same.

I also have a Cygnett USB-C car charger and it broke too.

I think they are very poor with their built quality.

      But I got both replaced.

I'd rather a better quality product than go through warranty and then the replacement will break too.

    Howdy

    Cactus here,

I've opened and tested these as part of my battery bank yearly roundup.

I don't think I could list all the things shitty about this power bank. Which is extremely bizzare because Cygnett make some very good cables albeit expensive.

It's not even worth on sale af half the price, it's not even close to 15000mAh the cells are bottom of the barrel reused cells from the looks of them and often aren't set up in balanced configurations and it doesn't always output it's full 60w.

I don't usually say this this for products but stay away from these, maybe I just got unlucky with my 2 units tested but they also have concerning failure rates online amongst people I know.

This is consistent with ANY battery bank that uses flat LiPo batteries. They just aren't made or designed to be used in high power battery banks. If you don't have 18650 or 21700 cells.. The bank sucks 9/10 times.

Thank you for this - very help!
Do you have any suggestions for better power banks?

      • +1

I suggest this all the time, it's a bit pricier, but it's well worth the cost as it'll last a long time and will power anything.

ZMI no20, 130ish on aliexpress and 170 on Amazon but if you wait for a sale you can get them around 130 as well.

I can go into detail if you want but tldr but it's the best bank money can buy as well as being the best bang for buck.

any suggestions for 10000 mAh power banks? looking for something more portable for daily use with my phone.

    • I’ve also had one for years and the plastic is doing that turning back into oil thing. Mine is now wrapped in glad wrap. Wouldn’t exactly recommend it

      • +1

Yeah that rubbery gritty texture that's disgusting.

It basically breaks down under sunlight/UV with 8-12+ months of exposure.

Unfortunately many companies still use that polymer because it initially feels "premium". But it's not built to last.

        • Yeah except as best I can remember it wasn’t really in use/in the sun

          • @Guzd: That's especially unfortunate then if it's broken down with minimal exposure :(

    • Hi Cactus. Any rec for a powerbank that plugs syroahht into an Android phone (ie no cable, just sticks in at the bottom)? The biggest ones I can find are 5000maH. Tyvm

      • Not any decent ones, all of them have to be small to do that otherwise you'd have a brick hanging off your phone. If I'm imagining the right thing you're talking about, the reason you can't find any higher than 5000mAh is because at that size, there physically aren't any BATTERIES that have more juice than that.

There are wireless charger based banks that magnetically attach they're all mostly the same if you must use something like that, but they waste a lot of energy, generate lots of heat for both the bank and your phone and burn your phones battery life at a slightly accelerated speed VS wired charging, however for quick top ups/emergencies and occasional use they are extremely convenient, small and very neat.

If you are okay with a permanent cable, Baseus make a power bank that has an ORANGE USB C cable permanently attached to it that is 65w.

If you search up 65w USB C Baseus power bank you'll find it based off that orange cable.

    • Hey @SmoothCactus - when I do a search for the ZME No. 20 it comes up with the QB826 and QB826G. It looks like the G model has slightly higher specs. Have you had experience with both?

BTW, if you have linkage to your reviews I'd be keen to check them out. I've bought a few powerbanks and thus far the one ZMI that I purchased has definitely lasted the longest, and is still going strong about 3 years later.

      • +3

I have tested and used both, I would suggest the G model if you can, the ONLY DIFFERENCE is the amount of input power it can handle and subsequently the charge time.

G variant supports 100w input, the other 65w.

Both will charge your brick fairly quickly, but obviously the 100w much faster. The price difference is usually negligible so I'd suggest the QB826G variant. If its not though, nothing wrong with the 65w variant at all.

Im in the middle of compiling data for everything still, I'll publish all my data once I do

        • Hey @SmoothCactus, appreciate the advice you share (when will you post the reviews all in one place?) just looking into getting one of these - what type of charger would you recommend to charge the QB826G or QB826 ? Cheers

  • My Cygnett 25k high end unit died after about 6 months. Display flashes but it won't charge. I barely used it. Pretty disappointed - these products look high quality.

  • Get Baseus much better

    • +1

According to OzBargain, no, they're not. Read the comments on the blade deal I linked above.

  • I'm on the opposite side of these reviews. I've had my chargeup pro 20,000mAh for several years now…taken quite a beating (sometimes daily) and still going strong. This one: https://www.harveynorman.com.au/cygnett-chargeup-pro-20000ma…

  • Bought one of these back in March when it was on sale for this price.
Have been using it for charging the Nintendo Switch. Not had any issues with it.

  • +3

These are UTTER garbage. I had one, explained to them why it was faulty, they send me another (free) and had the EXACT same issue.

    • They don't seem anywhere near the capacity they say (
    • You can't turn them on / off. Once they are connected to a device, on and charging you have to disconnect to turn off. the power button does nothing
    • If you don't remove all cables, it stays "on" (and you can't turn it off) and discharges in about 5 days….with NOTHING connected just the blue lights of the pack on.

Maybe I just got two bad ones, but i can't recommend these AT ALL.

    • Been using the 20000 ones for several years now without dramas. Doing really well and I can't see any reason to upgrade.

I think you just got the bad ones.

  • Had one of these… got puffy from very little use…. do not recommend.

  • I have the 20k version of this, no issues, still use it here and there 3 years later. It seems to be discontinued. Bizarre that this new, larger one is so problematic.
