  • not bad. how much $ agl ea etc will buy per kw from us?

    • if you install it before 30th of this month i think its .29cents, after this months under the new lao its .08 cents, that what i read on news papaers

    • Every energy provider is different, but it won't vary much from 6-10c. The best way to utilize your system is by saving money. i.e. it will reduce the import of electricity from the grid. So instead of spending 22c a kW that your provider sells your during peak hours, your using the electricity generated from your solar panels. Happy Bargaining

So we can have Net Metering configuration?

    • Here is a link with a summary of the crappy IPART ruling regarding the setting of a "fair" solar feed-in price, as well as what the 12 electricity retailers for NSW are offering (scroll to the bottom of the page).

      http://www.myenergyoffers.nsw.gov.au/useful-information/solar-feed-in-tariffs.aspx

In regards to AGL its only 8c/kWh. I'm not sure what they're doing for new customers but for current customers it has been dropped from 28c to 20c as of Sep 1, and it will drop again to just 8c from the start of our next billing period.

      • +1

Net metering (supply house with excess to grid) is the way to go… our new system will be 8c ex agl less 45c kwh saved during peak rate day hours…(correction peak rate nsw agl now 52.5c kwh)
It is not so much what your elec co is paying you for your excess to grid.
In time gross metering (all produced direct to grid) will not be the best to have.

HI rep, whats the best you can do on other systems? 3kW and 5KW? any finance options available? does the mentioned $999 special is for the premium package(german panel & invertor) or for the classic panels & invertor(china), thanks

    • Good questions. will be keen to hear the response from rep

    • Assume it's the cheapo version.

    • +5

dont knock chinese equipment. however avoid poorly made stuff from anywhere, including china.

      • Exactly… I prefer the quality asian units over the european ones.
IE: Trina panels & Samil inverters.

    • This special is specifically for the 1.5kW classic. Finance is available

      • Hi, do you mind to list the brand of the classic system?

Can you provide a deal for the German 1.6kW with 2.5kW Delta German Inverter.

        Thanks Rep.

        • The brands used in the classic would be JMM or TopSola for the Panels and JFY inverter.

Yes we can provide a deal for the German Solar package with a 2.5kW inverter. Please email me or call with your interest.

Mention Ozbargain and Instead of being $2350 it'll be $1950.

        • Not much neg posts in both topsola and jfy… I guess is good deal if as long as they r not goswatt and metroenergy stays for the next 10yrs to cover the warrantee ;) one post said German range should be 20% more in cost… hopefully the rep can do better than $1950. Btw, does it cost $ to have the first inspection?

        • No cost for the first inspection assuming the customer is within range, the reason why the premium is highly priced is due to the branding in the inverter names, also the Delta inverter has a 10yr manufacturer's warranty. For keen shoppers; send an email or call during office hours, regarding inspections and quotes for premium and larger sized packages

        • The manufacturer warranty probably covers only 1% of the component failure as always with plenty of conditions.

    • +1

If in a response bargainers mention ozbargain, then there will be a discount for the premium pacage also. Normally $2350. Brought down to $1950. Finance is available, 24month interest free.

  • Are you only on NSW?

  • all solar company should mention and explain honestly about what are benefit using this under new system.
i mean if no one at home during the day (full time working) then the benefit will be little, since the inverter cannot save what it generated during the day for evening usage.
    am i correct?

    • No

If no one is at home during the day, you sell back to the grid at a pre-determined rate.

    • As far as I know the solar is not connected to your home network in any way. It connects to the grid and the way you 'save money' is by selling the power to the electricity company, not by using it yourself.

      • +3

wrong. you use it first, and anything left over is then moved onto the grid.

        • source? so i can learn?

        • +1

that depends if its a gross feed-in (all goes straight to electricity grid) or net feed-in (you use first and then excess sent to electricity grid)

      • It is connected to the grid although it'll reduce the electricity consumption used on your house before going back into the grid. If you have a small system such as a 1.5kW, if big appliances are used or if someone is home during the day, it may be more worthwhile for a bigger system, however a 1.5kW system will cover just the small "always on" appliances that are on throughout the house such as your fridge, net router, phones/faxes.

        • How many years before I can actually see the saving? Bear in mind that I have to fork up $999.

        • +2

Around the two years, give or take. Bear in mind this system is expected to last 25yrs and that the cost of electricity is always rising.

        • +1

Environmental savings from 0-18 months (highly dependent on the orientation of the panels)

For cost savings two years is best case with 100% energy consumed on-site. This can be tricky to achieve and is dependent on the daily load curve of the building.

On the other hand if 100% of the energy was exported @ 0.08 c/kWh, then on a system that was a text book installation it would take 5.4 years to payback. More if you don't have a good pitch and/or orientstion.

Its really about matching consumption with when the PV system will generate the power

Don't forget the inverters and other components will crap out before the PV panels. I can't imagine a cheap inverter lasting more than 5+ years. Check warranties

    • Some energy providers will still pay a small amount whereas some other smaller energy company will offer a 30c/kWh that is sent back to the grid, obviously you will need to sign up with that energy provider though. Though if you are serious about buying and would like to know more please call back during officer hours.

  • +1

What about connection to the electricity grid. Is that cost included or is it extra? Do you do the connections or do you have to get someone separate in to do it (some of these solar people can't do the connection as they don't have a Level 2 ASP)

    • That's correct. Once the Solar panel system is installed we will notify your energy providers who will provide us with a meter to have this installed by one of our level 2. Metering will cost an extra $350.

  • So many questions that rep need to explain

  • if i spent roughly $1.5k-2k on electricity bill each year, will the solar panels really offered me a saving of $650-$800 as claimed? i doubt my roof is big enough to fit more than 8 panels… was thinking buying 5kw and forget about future bills from TruEnergy, Origin etc… hehe

just wondering… does all my appliance use the "invertor generated" electricity automatically or do i have to do some manual intervention?

    thanks for your information!

    • You use zero of the power generated it all goes back to the grid. if you have a power outage the panels do nothing so you still have no power. we are years off storing the power generated and using it later

      • +1

Yes with Gross Metering this is true. With Net Metering your meter runs backwards if you use less than you produce.

    • The power companies will still bill you for the Service Availability Charge (SAC). This charge differs from retailer to retailer. EnergyAustralia in NSW charges around 70cents per day. Assuming they buy energy from you for 20cents per kwh, you will need to generate at least 4kwh excess to completely offset the SAC.

To truly forget about future bills is to completely get off the grid.

      • Where yo get that???
On the Energy Australia it states daily service charge 146 cents a day. Feed in is 6cents/kWh.
Currently there is no feasible way of getting neutral or profitable from home solar system.
For people who are not at home during the day the 1,5kW system is best, happily running my 2PCs, 2 fridges and small HDD array from the solar energy during the day. It saves me anywhere between $1 to $2 per day. Let's average it to $500 per year. For a $1k system the return is in 2 years. Quite good in my books, but you will still have to pay any extra and anything for the time when there is no sun. My return to the grid is about 0.6kWh a day! :-)

        • The 70cents per day that I mentioned is the non-solar which I assumed it's the same for people with solar. Obviously as you mentioned it is $1.46 per day, that amount is outrageous. Me thinks this whole electricity solar is the biggest scam. The more you try to reduce your bill by reducing usage or installing solar, they counter it by increasing tariffs and/or increasing the service availability charge.

    • +1

It is a saving assuming that it is utilized and according to pure calculations and not behavior. Although if utilized then yes you can still save that much per year. An installer will need to go to your house first to decide whether your roof is large enough to fit 8 panels and we can also use different size panels. It wouldn't be commercially viable to buy a 5kW system if your energy bill is only $375-$500 a quarter. Then a lot of the power generated would be sent back into the grid. And it would take a lot longer to pay back. For an electricity bill that size you would be looking at a 1.5kW to no larger then 2kW

as the solar market has now settled into its post-high rebate period, i recommend for anyone considering solar to get multiple quotes, only consider the ones where someone visited and climbed on the roof to look, and refer the quote to the whirlpool forums for solar industry comment. just too many sharks out there. this is not a reflection of the OP. they do advertise quality components. hopefully they use them too.

  • Has anyone had experience with these guys? With low prices and no bricks and mortar address I smell something not quite right, anyone else?

P.s. Title should be updated to note that this offer is only within 200km of Sydney

    • +1

Title has been updated to show area range. Unit 11/15-19 Birmingham Ave, VILLAWOOD NSW 2612.
Prices are competitive, and market based.

      • Thanks.

  • What happens to the STC's ? Are they signed over to you, to offset the lower cost ?

    • The prices above have already been offset by the STC's. Without the STC's the system price would be a lot higher.

      • As expected (I wasn't very clear in my post). Thanks for the reply.

  • Bummer about 200km, I live 285km north of a small country town called Canberra:) google it, if dont know where it is…..

    • you mean south?

  • I've been trying to work out how I'd save $650-$800 annually. Some people must pay a fortune for their electricity. Using AGL's 24c per KW in peak, and producing (and using) 6.6KWh/day work out to be:
    0.24 x 6.6 x 365 = $578. Well short of your quoted totals.

It could still be a good savings, no denying that, but your figures appear elevated above reality.

    • Looks like your math is based on an assumption that all and every day in a year is sunny and summer never ends. The reality is (and I know it as I have 1.5kW system installed) that on overcast day there is almost no electricity generated. Same in winter when day is short and sun is low. Here are slightly more realistic numbers:

      0.24 x 6.6 x 365 x 0.4 = $231

      • My math was based on the assumption provided by the OP. He states that the PV's are "…generating approximately 6.6kWh/day".

Which clearly doesn't work in with the initial part of the sentence being "Potential Saving of $650-$800 annually,…", and much less than reality is seems.

So even this bargain is going to take somewhere in the region of 6 years to pay off. I'm not discount the decent price, but the cost effectiveness of having PV cells on people's roofs when it takes 6 years to see a return on a $1350 investment.

  • Is there any similar deals for Melbourne? The cheapest I have seen here is around $2k from Tru Value Solar…

  • Dont forget folks that optimum production relies on sunlight and the location / orientation of the panels.
While you may purchase a ?.? kw system you may only produce a portion of that capability at times.
With increased electricity costs being a certainty an investment in solar power source with NET metering will be an investment you will not regret.
Do your research on the panels and inverters before you commit.
Some good first hand feedback here .. also other sites as well.
    http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum/143

  • Any cheaper without installation ?

    • It would be more expensive, as it would be considered off grid. A CEC accredited electrician will need to connect the system. Without the connection there would be no STC cash back that allows the installers to install the system for the prices they do.

  • +1

its appears to be a good deal for nsw. but i need to find a good deal for a 3kw system for qld. anyone have any suggestions?

    • I'm also interested in a deal in Brisbane

  • Be aware on the usual trick the solar sellers do often. On their web site and in the quote they will offer panels of brand A and inverter of brand B. When installation time comes they "suddenly" run out of brand A and B products and offer you lower quality brands X and Y. So make sure you discuss this scenario when you sign a contract.

    • agree. another trick is saying "hey i have another customer tomorow to install just next suburb if you agree now, i can install tomorow therefore save the labour cost travelling time, so i gave you discount xxx"

  • One of the energy rep came in for an inspection today and i am about to find out what package price they can offered me. i used abt 30 kw p/day in summer and 45 kw p/day in coooooooold winter.

will let you guys know how i went :)

    • its always cheaper to cut use thru small changes in lifestyle, globes, and then maybe finding more efficient appliances etc, than simply buying a system to cover current use levels.

After weeks of getting quotes from various solar companies I decided to use Metro Energy. Tony and staff were fantastic from the moment I had a chat to them. Tony came out and inspected my roof/set up and we went into detail about Solar systems, what system I should get, potential savings, explained to me all the cost associated with getting a solar system, etc. Tony was VERY helpful and there was no pressure to purchase the deal. I was able to contact him with any questions and he was always helpful. The panels, and German inverter I asked for and he delivered! There was no dodgy dealings and the workmanship on the installation was excellent. I am happy with this system and with Metro Energy Group that I referred him to my mate and neighbour and now he is installing their system in the next few days. Now lets see if this will save me money!!!
If you want to ask me any questions PM me and I am more than happy to reply (if I can, if not contact Metro Energy Group and ask for TONY).
