Portable AC Vent Ideas

Hey OzBargain,

Currently renting an old two story terrace where I also work full time from home. With summer coming up I'll probably need a portable AC to keep the office cool.

My main issue is the only window in the office has two panels that open outwards from the centre like this https://i.redd.it/anqn90gurp3b1.jpg

Any ideas on how I can connect up the vent? Also taking any suggestions on what unit to buy, I'm well aware portable units aren't the best option but it's the only one I have. Office is 3x4m and I'll probably drag it into the bedroom at night which is the same size.

For Windows that swing open (usually called casement Windows) you'll need to buy a special window kit, since portable AC's usually come with a kit that's designed for sliding windows.

All portable AC's use basically the same design so they all have the same downsides regardless of brand — all run very loud, creates negative air pressure in your room and they always have to be positioned near a window to dump the heat.

Everything I have read about portable ac units is that they are crap, do not work well. Consider getting a box unit and jerry rigging it into your window, and then actually enjoy some coolness during summer.
