Tourist Refund Scheme - Invoice Re-Printed as Refund/Exchange to Include Name - Will This Be Accepted?

Just wondering if anyone would have any knowledge if my certain situation will be accepted at the TRS:

I bought a laptop costing over $1000 and forgot to ask for a TRS specific invoice.

I asked after the fact and the store associate told me I could not refund and re-process due to the serial number of the product.

However, she was able to provide me a Refund/Exchange invoice that had my name alongside the original receipt by altering the serial number so it would work on the store’s POS system.

Will the TRS accept this if I provide both receipts upon arrival or am I better off refunding the product and buying elsewhere?

    Just so you know, retailers are not legally bound to offer a full refund…

      yes understandable, will just have to cop my mistake if the secondary receipt doesn’t work.

      Yep I had exact issue a few years ago, asked them to add my name to the receipt for TRS and they said it's not possible. I got them to get a manager who made me wait about 30 minutes but eventually did that weird refund/exchange receipt which had my name on it as a comment at the bottom, but it said I paid $0. I said it wasn't good enough and asked for a full refund instead, but they refused and threatened to call security on me if I didn't leave the store. Luckily TRS accepted both receipts stapled together with some explaining.

    We're not TRS to be able to advise. Depends on the agent on the day. Make sure you fill in the TRS app before you go to maximise chances.

    I've seen them scrutinise details one-by-one at the desk and have also seen them waive people through with barely a glance at paperwork. For $100, they shouldn't be too interested. There's people taking out tens of thousands of dollars of gear there.

    Probably best to let Officeworks know about your situation, you should be able to refund and repurchase on the spot.

    One JB Hifi once giave me a hand written invoice/ receipt when i went back the next day. But that's years ago though.

    Sorry I am a bit off topic…Can I claim TRS when I go out of Australia and bring that items back to Australia few weeks later?
