Best Option for Mounting Air Con Compressor

I'm looking at buying a 2.5kW split system and I was talking to a mob today and I am looking at a LG WH system. But I was wondering what people's opinions are on how to mount the outside unit. The AC place said they just use a Poly Slab, but the unit will be going onto a grass area (though I could cut that back and lay weed sheet and gravel down). I was thinking a concrete slab, I could make a 1x0.5x0.075m slab myself. House is on hard ground but I would still have gravel under it. Or I could mount the unit to the walls. House is brick veneer.

So what do you recommend?

Wall brackets - Can mow under and my dumb dog can't pee on the compressor. Extra $100.
Concrete slab - I would imagine the longest lasting of the lot. I would make it, so say a bit over $100-$150 extra.
Poly slab - Included in the price, so no extra cost. Worried that line trimmer might damage it.

  • Poly Slab would be my choice,

  • What's the price to put it on your roof?

    • Not sure, but not really looking at that option. Also that side of the house is where the solar panels are anyway so not sure if that would work.

  • +2

Wall bracket for the reasons you mentioned.

    • Downside is a chance of vibrations, we had 3 installed on brackets of which one gives a little rattle 'occasionally ' on indoor unit. Noise is subdued if i pull down on the end of the brackets of external unit, installers unable to fix it and i gave in
      .

      • That's what I'm worried about. How much noise are we talking about? I usually sleep with a 750mm industrial fan going in my room.

        • If there's any noise at all then it's not mounted properly, or the fan might be unbalanced/dirty. A new unit should have no vibrations at all.

          • @Switchblade88: Okay that's good. I'm heavily leaning towards wall bracket. Save me making the gravel bed, and also stops my dog peeing on the compressor.

  • Depending on the size of your outdoor unit? Maybe pick up something like Adbri Masonry 600 x 300 x 40mm Charcoal Boulevard Paver

Obviously needs to do the usual base of sand / rocks / stone etc.

  • Plain concrete paver can be used as base for air conditioner installations @ $40
