Crestell heavy-weight wool quilts vs Tontine Supreme wool quilts

I am after some quilts and notice the two sales:
- Crestell heavy-weight wool quilts (Groupon): machine washable, made in China
http://www.groupon.com.au/deals/national-deal/Crestell/71634…
- Tontine Supreme wool quilts (on sale at Harris Scarfe): dry clean only, made in Australia

I really appreciate anyone who has used these quilts and can share your opinions about their quality. Do you find their cotton covers soft enough or they actually rustle?

  • Thanks for bringing this up. I just ordered a King size Tontine one. Fantastic price, and I'm much happier to buy an Australian product than one made overseas. Plus much happier not to order from Groupon. Heard too many bad stories about those sort of websites.

I've been wanting a wool quilt for ages, so looking forward to trying it out.

    • I actually prefer buying Australian made products but I am a bit concerned about dry cleaning. I feel dry cleaning cannot clean a quilt as completely as washing and the chemical smell lasts a long while. Do you know if dry clean only quilts can still be machine washed?

  • Hi ChristinaUQ,

I didn't even think of that. I'll just chuck it in the washing machine and not think too much about it. Maybe with woolwash as detergent. Maybe you could email Tontine and ask.

I know I've bought feather bedding products before that are supposed to be dry clean, but no idea about wool products.

    • Thanks Voiletmay. I just googled and saw many people trying to machine wash their dry cleaning only wool quilts without any problem.

  • From what I remember, wool quilts can get very very heavy after a while.
