Boost Expiring While Overseas

Wife is on boost which we pay yearly her year is up 3rd oct which we will be overseas then.
Any advice on what she can do?
Will she loose her number?
Or does it sit around for a bit,I know almost two weeks after we get back she not be able to use her boost as it will have ended.

Of all times it expires it has to be the time we are overseas.
In past I been lucky with chatting with boost chat and last time when mine was expiring and boost had a deal on there sims I was able to just buy and they transferred my number on to.
But I was surprised as they normally say it’s new customer only make I just got a nice person.
Maybe such things does not happen anymore as this was last December, I was not able to get such deal previously with the wife on oct prior as one there was no boost offer deal ongoing and had to pay full price.

Her one expires oct and just curious what I can do to get best price on boost again for a year as officially they only provide deals or other sellers offer and it’s for new customers.
I believe not much I can do with it anyway being overseas but am i right her number will be ok till we get back?

I’m not worried about mine as that’s close to Xmas time but need to have her one up and running, either when due or if I see a good deal price afterwards.

Also regarding roaming, I’m sure I read on another post that people was receiving txt cant remember about calls but getting txt on there phone from boost while overseas?
Or has this Stopped now? And they did not have roaming paid in advance for it was just there.

You can recharge through the boost website.

  • Buy another sim and port over to it (mate offers $1 sim but their billing starts on the day you purchase and not when you activate). Or let your recharge expire, your number will remain active for a few months - confirm with boost on the exact timeframe.

    • And yes you can receive texts when roaming but not calls. Nor can you make calls, use data. When you're back onshore and you've not recharged, you'll be able to receive texts and calls.

How long before my number expires?
Your number will expire if you do not recharge your service for 6 months.

    • 6 months ok cool so I don’t need to stress over it then. If there is a deal on with boost on my return and boost offer it to me then even better.
But if not just have to pay the current price.

See no point in recharging while I’m overseas as it be 2 weeks later till I’m back home and just as well do it when back.
I just got worried wife would lose her number if not recharging prior or on that last day.

    Will she loose her number?
No her number will still be tight

    • Does it mean no matter if day or night and her boost as expired I can still go online and do it or had it to be done over phone or chat due to expired.
This is the 12 month plan

      • Yes, but better you recharge it a day early cause she can then still enjoy vo-wifi and call local numbers if her phone supports so.

        • A day early when overseas?
Would it not be best wait till home then do it.

  • My number expired while I was in Europe on 16AUG.
Recharged with no issues when I landed back on 02SEP via chat.

Number stays active but restricted for up to 6 months with no recharges.

  • So you went on chat and recharged when you got back?

    What do you mean

Number stays active but restricted for up to 6 months with no recharges.

You have upto 6 months to recharge if not then loose the number.
I probably recharge on the day we return if possibly next days due to time.

    • That's correct - I asked them to activate a $300 recharge on my number and they've done it with no fuss.

I meant that your number stays online with Telstra for 6 months - you can still receive SMSs and calls but cannot send sms/mms or call as your recharge has expired.

You'll be fine to recharge when you come back in Aus.

  • Different carriers have different periods after which a non-recharged number is deactivated. I've heard Amaysim is 12 months (I've tested it until 5 months post expiry and was able to recharge). Most are around the 90-day mark, so even if the recharge expires and you're gonna be back within a couple of months, you should be good to recharge.
Note that you'll still be able to receive texts without a valid recharge.

    • When you say still able to receive txt without a recharge when we go overseas and her recharge is not up till early October until then while it’s active does she need to have roaming on?
And even so when it’s expired.
My plan is not due till late Dec so when I’m overseas with mine do i switch my roaming on or off and if I leave it on what will happen?
I thought when you go overseas first thing you do is switch roaming off. I will have a SIM card for that country while we are so wide and I can contact each other and family.
But not sure what happens when your over there and roaming is either on or off.

      • Last time I went overseas in December, I kept roaming off and Boost could still latch onto a local provider and I could receive SMS. Don't keep roaming on, just as a precaution.

Just as another benefit, I was able to call Australia numbers after connecting the phone to a wifi using the VoWifi feature. This required as a valid recharged number

  • I’m overseas right now and roaming is off and yet I’m able to txt to australia how is this, I’m on boost plan which I pay every year.

    • Yes, you can receive sms/txt while you are overseas with boost. You can also call anywhere in Australia for free (as long as you are connected to Wifi and your phone is set up to do so (VOLTE/VOWIFI). See comment above which gives you instruction
You only need to pay roaming if you want data when not connected to wifi.

      • I still don’t understand the VOLTE/VOWIFI all I know is I can txt aus not sure about calling as dont need to call anyone as yet.

  • By the way, since you are worried, did you know you can recharge it for a month (which will cover time till your return to australia)? and then worry about getting a 12mths recharge after your return. You can do this from the boost app. The cheapest is $22 which will give you 7GB and 28 days of expiry. You do not need roaming pack to buy this (nor you will be charged data) to purchase this pack. You just need to be connected to a network (be it Wifi or your overseas provider)
