Luggage Dimensions and Restrictions

Hey all,

I'm on the hunt for some new luggage, preferably large.

Weirdly enough, most larger luggage sizes sold exceed limits by most airlines (158 linear cm)

For example: https://www.samsonite.com.au/oc2lite/spinner-55-exp-s/ss-127…

I'm not much of a traveller myself. Wondering if this much of an issue? Do airlines check this?

    You take your chances.
Luggage is not solely used for air travel.

The 81cm cases are too bulky. You risk overpacking and exceeding the 23kg limit for low-cost airlines; they don't fit in the luggage racks in trains so you have to store them at the end of the carriage; they're hard to squeeze through public transit gates and difficult to fit into a rideshare/taxi. I suggest getting a 68cm case.

I had to downsize my luggage on a recent Japan trip due to some of the bullet trains now not allowing you to take larger suitcases.

    • oh this is good to know!

    • what about snowboards/skis? What were the size limits?
