Affiliate/Referral Links in Comments

I have been penalised for posting a referral link, supplied from the site linked in an OzB thread.

After doing all required on the site I was given the referral code to post to friends, etc. As per lots of competitions posted in OzB, referrals and links in posts are common.

So why was mine flagged? https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/798169#comment-14263329 because I was the only one who posted the given link?

The bottom line was "$10 each on signups from referral." whereas in other threads with referrals, extra entries into prize draws were linked.

So no more referral links in comments?

    Deal posts have a referral randomiser to promote fairness and reduce spam, so no referral links in comments.

    Competition posts do not need randomising, as etiquette is follow the chain, so have referral links in comments.

    There's nothing to gain (directly) from competition referral links, whereas there's financial advantage from you spamming your referral link.

    You'll see that no deal post has referral links in the comments, they get moderated out.

    Fair enough.

    I just didn't understand it all.

    I plead guilty asking for consideration and the removal of my black mark.
