Predictably your question has started a flame war of the 'X is so better than Y, and Y is stupid anyway' type.
The S3 is one of the best Android phones ever. Personally, I'm going with iPhone5, but if you like a phone that large and are happy with Android, then the S3 is great. If you want something that is really polished and seemless to use, then take a look at the iphone.
The specs are only part of the equation and not that different in anycase, except for screen size (I prefer the smaller screen).
FWIW the resale value on the iphone will likely be much more than the Android, if history is a guide.

    • From the following Samsung ad - it seems

      http://upload.ozbargain.com/2012/09/16/9395_samsung-v-iphone…

  • To Rep, description says pickup. Do i verbally tell the salesman at the mobileciti in parramatta the coupon code to get it reduced?

    • … or mention OZBargain Deal when you pickup.

Yes. Do it subtly as to not draw any attention to yourself.
You'll have to memorize the code.
Call him over with a "pssst" then whisper the code in his ear. After this, wink 3 times (with your left eye) and give him the secret handshake. If you forget the code, you'll need to give him the abort signal, go outside, read the code and try again.

Great price gets a big + from me…. so tempting but holding off till 1 ) I save up for it and 2 ) 4G version is available (as I upgrade my phones every 2-3 years on average so once a buy a phone I stick to it for a while)…

  • +3

Crazy cheap - will wait for the gun metal colour though.

  • +3

Great price with OZ stock + 2 yrs warranty. Just bought one. Thanks.

  • +2

I guess the price certainly drops for S3 after the announcement of Iphone 5.

If anyone interested in vodafone galaxy s3, i can get one & sell (ofcourse at market price). My contract just expired so i am eligible to get one. Let me know via Private message for 16/32gb with color preference.

      Black LTE version ;)

Great deal, too bad it's only the blue though

  • Does anyone know if it is easy to refresh the rom to a normal one without optus crap?

    • +1

The process itself shouldn't be too complex - just find a good guide and ROM (there should be plenty of both).

After a couple of agonizing hours I pulled the pin. I have pre-ordered every iPhone since the 3GS but I have to say I was so underwhelmed at the "best iPhone since the iPhone" that I've finally jumped ship.

    These were the main reasons:

    1. I want a big screen. Simple making the screen taller was never going to cut it for me.
    2. I am with Exetel and it took them an eternity to come to the mini-sim party. God only knows how long it will take them to come to the nano-sim party.
    3. To make all of my iPhone accessories work correctly would have cost an extra $90 in adapters (and $800 for the 16GB iPhone is already WAY over priced).
    4. I'm sick of any company which forces proprietary cables and connections on users. Mini-USB = Maxi-goodness
    5. There was a time when the iPhone was sooooo far ahead of everyone else that to not have one was simply painful as a certified tech-head. Now that the competition has caught up it's not a given to HAVE to own an iPhone anymore
    6. Call me a snob but I liked being one of not that many in the early days who could afford to own an iPhone outright. Nowadays any 13 year old twat can own one on a horrendously over-priced call plan.
    7. The iPhone's ubiquity means that every 'ding' at a cafe causes 100 people to reach for their jacket pocket.
    8. I read about the term 'iSheep' today and it hurt my feelings :-(

I'll give the SG3 a whirl for the next year and at worst I can grab the iPhone 5S in a year's time when Exetel finally get the nano-sims in and ebay has the proper cords for 8 cents a pop.

P.s. the place where you input the code wasn't that obvious to me and it meant that I had to fill in all of my details again once I realized that the code box appears near the bottom of the screen once you have added the phone to your cart and clicked on 'checkout'.

Thanks a bunch to the OP

You might be able to soon buy a stapler/holepunch on ebay that cuts SIMS down to nano sim size. Though likely the 5S will use picoSIM.

I think Apple have run out of ideas. If a new generation iPhone doesn't excite, then the 5S will be even less exciting. I'm not even anticipating the announcement next time around, like I do every year.

      • The micro-sim cannot be cut down to nano-sim AFAIK.

        • Sounds like Apple sold out to Telcos for some cash then. No other reason I can think of that a LARGER iPhone doesn't have enough space for a microSIM that it needs to be trimmed down even smaller.

          Shame on Apple.

    • The use of proprietary cables is what got me to go with the iP4S over Android last year. The proprietary cable allowed me to have a line out and plug it into an amp bypassing the onboard sound chip. AFAIK this isn't something that can be done on an Android. Having a proprietary cable isn't a bad thing.

Point 8 genuinely made me lol..

"I'll give the SG3 a whirl for the next year and at worst I can grab the iPhone 5S in a year's time"

If it helps your confidence, the great majority of people I've heard from who have switched from Apple to Android (including me) have never looked back. I'll go back to Apple if their next product looks like it's better than Android, but so far it's not happening for me.

Good luck with your new phone!

  • Is this thing 6x times better than $100 tablet/phone?

    • An Optus MyTab? What tablet/phone has 3G?

    • +3

Of course not. That's not how the tech world works.

    • It depends on who is using it.

For someone who wants a phone that will call someone and store contacts without a need for other features then absolutely not, waste of money.

For someone who wants to play very basic games then go for a mid range smartphone like the lumina 620, galaxy s2 or a iPhone 4.

For someone who needs the latest and greatest with a great camera, can play all the latest games and is the best thing going then this is a great price.

But if you don't know the difference between a $100 phone and a galaxy s3 then there's a chance that you don't need it, if your still interested then go down to your local mobile shop and pick one up and if your impressed then check OzBargain for the best price.

      • So, is mobile gaming/camera worth another $500 on top of $100 phone/web browser function?
It will be latest and greatest max. half year.

Just wondering why people buying them.

        • The same reason people buy the latest and greatest tv's and constantly upgrade their computers.

Personally (with a 3 year old daughter) I love having a camera on my phone and having a great and quick point and shoot means that I no longer have to lug a camera around; then try and find it turn it on and miss whatever it was that my daughter was doing in the first place.

At the end of the day phones like all other consumer products have a number of choices. If you want the best then you generally have to pay a premium for it.

        • Can you name that reason? Not many people are actually buying the latest and greatest tv's or constantly upgrading their computers, though many can afford it.

What is the best for me - just depends on my values and not on a product release date or a quantity of extra features at extra premium.

  • Is it Next G ready?

    • This is not Telstra Phone, but it will support 850mhz Network

This sucks! I logged in this morning to read the troll posts and they were all gone! What's with the enthusiastic moderating? Can't they simply be hidden like other comments that have received too many negs?

iPhone 5 is way better than this!

    • iSheep…..

      • iCame, iSaw, iConquered….

        • +2

iSheep pulls off mask revealing a fandroid in disguise

I was simply testing the waters and calling out any fandroids. Never bought an iPhone will never buy an Apple product. S3 destroys iPhone 5, the new LG Optimus G and HTC DLX will make the iPhone its b*tch and the Nexus phones will put it in its grave.

          Go Android.

      • lol hi-five

  • Good price. It means from now on when any Android High end devices comes out. wait for 3 months buyout right instead of signing up a plan for it. Then get a cheap plan, get a LC for data and voice.

Cheaper than signing up a contract for the phone locked in 2 years

  • +2

    Tempting.

Is this Australian Stock and will ship overnight?

The other thing is the LTE version is coming out too. Also the next Nexus.

    • It's australian stock and if you choose express delivery, you should receive within 1-3 business days after the payment confiremed. thanks

  • I have mine in my hands, great deal.

  • Rep, with the Samsung Note 2 about to arrive are you scoping for deals from Samsung Oz on the original? I'm keen if you are.

    • We will try. thanks for your suggestion.

  • Hi Rep, I'm flying in 2 weeks and would like to claim TRS.
How long will it take to deliver to Melb?

    Cheers

    • Hi Chew_chew, if you order it today, you should get it before friday. thanks

For anyone who is considering buying a Samsung S3, read the user comment by Megan Lemon in below link from allthingsD

    http://allthingsd.com/20120912/smartphone-wars-iphone-5-vs-t…

Software is really not Samsung's expertise so to speak and that affects the overall user experiences to a deep level.

    • +1

Yeah, because any user comments on an article titled 'Smartphone Wars: iPhone 5 vs. the Competition' are going to be accurate and completely useful.

Software is really not Samsung's expertise so to speak and that affects the overall user experiences to a deep level.

Yawn. I can say the sky is purple, but that doesn't make it true. Here's a shocker: some people might actually like the user experience provided by Samsung. I've used a Samsung GSII for a year, and I've had maybe 8 force closes and that's it. No blinking, stuttering, or perceivable lag. I have a friend with a GSIII, and the same is reported from him. The same thing is said, funnily enough, in user responses to your Megan Lemon in that link, but they are all downvoted. No bias at all, eh?

How about you just quiet down with the iPhone 5 nonsense - if people were interested in it, they would buy it. But currently they're here, looking at this bargain. Your trolling is getting quite tiresome.

      • +2

posters with multiple and high amount neg votes in a single thread should really be banned for a couple of days from making any more nonsensical posts.

  • If I order today 18/09, will I get it by this Friday 21/09?

    • Hi kbecc

      All stock sold.

      • Hi Rep

I tried to order earlier before OOS but was having problem when came to shipping section. I wanted to pick up the phone from the store but it didn't give me an option to do so. I then missed out on the phone :(

Where can I indicate pick up & not charge for delivery when I place the order?

        • Hi vson

there no pickup option on website, normally you just call the shop to reserve and pay on the counter, no delivery charge for pickup..

  • will you guys be getting more stock?

    • We will get some more stock to fill up the back order.
