How to Save on New iPhone 15 Purchase?

Regarding the iPhone 15, do you have any suggestions to get a deal?

I purchased gift cards in the 15% off promotion earlier this year, however it does not cover the entire amount. For the balance, are there any options to reduce the price? Apple does offer a trade in, however I can get a better deal by selling elsewhere.

  • Waiting to see if Vodafone do their $1,100 off an iPhone if you sign-up to 2-year $79 plan which effectively makes it ~$33/month. Will probably spring for that.

Is that deal any good if you break contract cos Vodafone sucks in your area?

      • I've already tested Vodafone with a $2 SIM and get the same signal strength and approx speedtests as my current Optus one so should be fine.

Did they ever do this deal for the pro models or only the base models?

Any iPhone 14 of your choice, includes regular, Plus and Pro models.

Min plan cost $1896 over 24 mths. Device cost additional

$1900 for the plan, just to “save” $1100 on the handset?!

Are people still paying those prices for plans?

I pay $120/year for my phone plan with Kogan. This “deal” would cost me ~$550 more than buying the phone outright. Even the $300/year Kogan plan would save you $200 overall.

It effectively calculates to $33/month for 150 GB each and every month.

The current Kogan $120 plan is 120 GB for the entire 365 day plan. It's also just 3G/4G with no 5G. Perfectly fine if enough and suits you, but yes, others have differing needs.

The $300 plan for 500GB is effectively $25/month, so not a huge difference from $33/month. It's also only $96 difference ($8*12), not $200, as the $300 plan has 365 day validity, not 2 years.

Rather pay $8/month extra for much more monthly data, 5G connectivity and not being on Kogan or ever having to deal with them for any reason.

        • Agree with your points about different needs, but your calculations on the $300 plan being only $96 cheaper is not accurate.

You can’t calculate only the 12 month difference in cost savings, when the true comparison is a 24 month commitment.

          $8/mo difference over 2 years is $192.

(That’s also not factoring in if you buy the $300 plan on sale for $200, or any overspend that may happen on the month to month Vodafone plan)

          • @jjjaar: With Vodafone $1100 offer provided as Apple credit and will get invoice for full price or only balance amount paid? Can we use apple giftcard to pay remaining?

    • +1

They’re actually doing $1,000 off on a $69 24 month plan which actually works out to be better value at ~$27 a month.

      • Oh sweet they've updated it, thanks for the heads up! That's a much better deal indeed. Going for it for sure.

Get a job at a telco, and then add the phone to your bill for a discount

  • Should have bought more gift cards at the 15% off to cover the cost of a new phone.

iPhone 15 - Any Suggestions to Get a Deal?

Wait 12 months…… Always deals then!

  • Macquarie rewards program offers Apple gift cards at 5% off. Not quite the discount you received earlier but still better than full price.

    • HCF offers the same too :)

    Harvey Norman!!!

  • ive never gotten an iphone before, would the 15 pro be worth the price increase from 14 pro?

    • Yes

    • They killed the mute switch
so marketplace will be flooded and there could also be some legit ones at discounts…

    How to get on afterpay?

  • Remember, if you've ruled out the 15 Pro/Pro Max and are looking for deals on the base 15 models, you should also consider a 14/13 Pro/Pro Max in case it's cheaper as it's better imo.

    • How is it better other than being cheaper

      • iPhone 14 pro and iPhone 15 have almost identical stats including the same cpu.

      • +1

        https://www.apple.com/au/iphone/compare/?modelList=iphone-14…

        14 pro vs (non-pro) 15
        - Same processor (meaning they will get the same levels of support)
        - promotion always on display that 15 doesn’t have
        - longer (rated) battery life on 14 Pro
        - same 48mp camera
        - 3rd camera, 12 mp telephoto lens, 15 doesn’t have
        - promotion video support
        - stainless steel vs aluminium frame

I think the 14 Pro is better than the 15 in almost every way, except that the 15 has USB-C instead of lightening. Otherwise the new features for the 15 this year are generally a subset of features that filtered down from last years pro model.

The assumption is, and I believe what we’re seeing on deals, is that you’ll be able to get a 14 Pro for near the cost of the same capacity 15.

Confused by the Education store option. Last I checked they don't sell iPhones?

    • Also, the cashback option is quite silly. There will be none for a very long time.
According to Apple, the new models sell themselves.

100% off if you dont buy it
Do you really need the new phone

    • I know a trick where you can save 100% off everything and you help the environment. You'd be dying to take advantage of it.

  • Just watched the 9 news report of its 'big new feature' - the usb c port they were forced to change to. Wow

    • I might buy it just for that feature…

      • They'll probably find some way to implement mfi usb c cables

        • They have.

The MFi ones are required to get the highest speeds.

          • @jv: Is that reported anywhere by chance? Everything I find suggests the USB cable they ship in the box will transfer at USB2 speeds, however any third party 10Gbps cable can be used and it doesn’t need to be Apple certified to transfer at higher speeds on the pro model.

            • @Smigit:

Is that reported anywhere by chance?

I heard it on the radio. Haven't really researched it yet, but wouldn't surprise me…

          • @jv: Oh wow, didn't know that but totally not surprised

  • Best way to get upto 17% offer for giftcard would get coles master card or visa offer (running now) (7% discount ) and use those card to buy giftcard with good discount rate.

    • Education Store

    • Employee Purchase Programme

OP, why even include them as options?

To this date, recently released Apple iPhone and Apple Watch models have never been discounted on the EDU or on the EPP stores.
You won't even see cashback on these models until around March / April next year (based on past trends).

    • Yep, pretty much stuck with gift cards.

If you meet work use requirements you can tax deduct a percentage of the phone come tax time too, but that’s obviously a while away.

      • +1

you can tax deduct a percentage of the phone come tax time too,

        or all of it…

        • or all of it…

Yes. That is an excellent way to beg the ATO for an audit of your tax affairs.

          • +1

@DoctorCalculon: won't happen, this information is not shared with ATO

          • @DoctorCalculon: They can do what they like, you are allowed to claim work deductions.

Yep I bought Apple gift cards at 15% too. I knew I was buying the iPhone 15 so got enough to cover the lot luckily 😁

  • So it would be good to wait for another gift card bargain and then getting it? I have a iPhone 11 Pro 64gb that I would trade in too bringing the price down from $1499 to $1139

    • +1

You don't have to wait. Woolworths is running a 20x EDR points on Ultimate gift cards this week, which can be used at JB Hi-Fi, The Good Guys and Officeworks.

JB Hi-Fi and TGG offer trade-in too.

      • can i use this to buy apple gift cards from jb?, because (correct me if I'm wrong) apple has a higher trade in

  • dont forget TRS when going os

    • did u ever go through TRS when u had to catch a flight after midnight? last time this was the case for me they were closed at melb airport..

  • I bought with everyday rewards 10% GCs and TRS.
