Chromecast 4K with Google TV, Sometimes Sound Doesn't Work

I have Hisense TV and in HDMI 1 I have installed Chromecast 4K with Google TV.

Everything works as expected but all of a sudden sometimes there is no sound coming out of TV speaker/Soundbar.

Initially I thought tv issue but if I go to free to air channels TV sound is working, then again if I go to Google TV sound will not work.

If I power off TV and then power on couple of times again it works (it might not work first time itself) anybody have faced this or any troubleshooting idea?

  • Try a different HDMI port

    • Thanks i tried it doesnt work

  • Do you mean you'll be watching something and then the sound just cuts out?
Or sometimes when you switch on the TV for the chromecast there just isn't sound at all?

Does power cycling just the chromecast resolve the issue?

    • I am watching something on youtube, once whatever I am watching is finished and I click on some other content sound just cuts out, if i remove the chromecast power and plug it back still no sound may be 2nd or 3rd attempt all of a sudden it will start working.

I have the similar problems. LG TV with Yamaha soundbar.
Soundbar and TV connected to internet via ethernet cable. Soundbar connected to TV via HDMI ARC.
There is a wireless connection between soundbar and subwoofer. Google TV uses Wifi.

When google tv is pluged in, either in soundbar or in tv (tried all ports) I have intermittant problems with soundbar not working.
(I can revert to the inbuild TV speaker.) As soon I pull Google Tv everything starts working again.

Read on some forums that Google interfers with soundbar signal and there was a recommendation to use an HDMI extension
and move the Google TV a bit away from TV, Soundbar, Router. However, I have not tried this yet.

  • Had similar issues, but havent figured out the root cause. Every now n then, we get a loud audio crack from something playing via the Google TV then no more audio until I power off and on. Sometimes it works again, other times nope.

I had the same problem as well maybe. I'd finish watching something on jellyfin, come back a few hours later and the sound from the Chromecast stopped working. Only fix would be a restart of the chromecast via settings (never tried a power cycle). That said re-reading your comments now I don't think it ever cut out mid show; only after I had left it idling for some time with the TV off.

Not sure if it was one of the apps I had installed (I remember I had an app to remap the buttons on the remote) but after a complete factory reset of the chromecast solved my issues.

    • Similar between Plex and YouTube sometimes sound would drop out forced close the apps sometimes works otherwise a reboot gets it sorted. Haven’t happened in quite a while so maybe a firmware upgrade sorted it. Or a Plex server update? Not sure which.

  • I had this issue. I go to Google Home and the sound has been turned down to zero - maybe by an update?

In my case volume is not turned down to zero but still no sound

      • That’s no good. That happened to me about 10 times and each time the volume for the device was turned down to zero on Google Home and when I increased it, it was fixed. It hasn’t done that now for about 6 months. Sorry it didn’t fix your issue.
