How Often Should I Change SD Cards in My Dashcam?

Upon seeing https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/798983 it got me thinking, when should I replace my current SD card in my dashcam?

Unless camera has issues reading/writing to card I don’t see the point? I usually will get the card out and do a quick check over video files to ensure it’s readable on pc and playback is fine once every 6 months.

      Will it tell you though?

yes the dash cam will not record if the SD card is not reading/writing/record properly

Will it tell you, or just try to write it to the ether?

@deme: Some dashcams will simply stop recording or say "Insert SD card" so it's easy to know when to replace it. For those that don't have this feature just copy a file to the SD and copy it out to do a quick check of if the SD card works. Of course, this method won't tell you if the SD is in perfect condition but I've never lost files doing this.

          • @deme: depends on your dashcam, mine one has a red bar saying insert Sd card

I have a Viofo dashcam and it continuously beep if the sd card is not writable or corrupted.

I haven't changed mine for 7 years and its a 32gb card and I drive more than 10k per year. I recentely checked and its still works.

  • If you do a full format (untick quick format) on a computer it will check for errors.

    • Not on flash memory.
