PC: Go with Am4 or Am5?

Hey all,

Simple question - is it worth going with AM5 yet? I've heard of some issues that are still being ironed out. Would like some opinions and any experiences. Cheers.

I'll be getting the motherboard, CPU and RAM. Got everything else ready to go.

If you are buying all the parts, AM5 for sure over AM4. Not even close.

If you're getting all those main components, definitely go for AM5. Getting in with the first gen Ryzen on the AM5 so you should have plenty of upgrade paths for CPUs over the coming years. I got a Ryzen 1700 and have been using the same motherboard and RAM and been upgrading the CPU only, and it's still going strong.

  • Have had a DDR5 machine for a month. Zero issues.

Depending on how often you build a new machine. More often, DDR4. Less often? DDR5.

If you have the budget there is no reason to consider AM4.

I dunno what issues are still being ironed out, but I have 2 AM5 systems and haven't had any issues.

  • Just curious, why AMD cpu in particular?

    • Been with AMD for the last couple of gens and always had smooth experiences.
