Selling Phone on Gumtree

Buyer says he's in TAS and happy to pay thru PayPal (family and friends option even so no seller fees,)

I sent him my QR code to pay and said I will only dispatch after money hits my bank

Can I be scammed anyway? Like maybe he reverses the payment after I ship ( don't think u can do that thru PayPal tho)

Or he claims not to receive the shipment and opens a refund dispute thru PayPal … but then again he is okay to pay thru family and friends option which don't think will have any protection

        Google it

        It's a scam

        • I have and can't find nothing. Specially for when I am the seller And he is willing to pay via family and friends option which don't have any protection from what I can see

          • @Mazozb: Then sell it this way and you'll find out

            It
            Is
            A
            Scam

Ask him for a phone number so you can chat to him….

    Nah bro sounds legit

  • First of all, I would be checking mobilemonster type websites to see what they will buy it back for. Their prices are often not too far off what you would get if you sell it

If you’re worried, safer to go this route

    • thanks. 950 private vs 620 on mobilemonster site :(

  • Only thing I can find as a possible window for scam is if he tries to put a chargeback thru his C/C or bank that is linked to paypal… but even then it seems if paying F+F option, not much can be expected.

Yep, a charge back with bank or CC will reverse the funds with F+F PayPal payments.
It's a high value easy to flip item and I'm guessing selling at a good price for you.
Scammers target these sort of items so I would 100% avoid

i vote for you to try it anyway since you sound keen , and report back :) havent had any good drama posts in here for a while

      • I mean his gumtree account is from 2022 and he has a few compliment badges already (polite, friendly and helpful) .. but then again you could probably frame a sale with a second dummy account and badge yourself up i guess.

Just can't figure out why he would say paypal preferred over payID… if not using paypal buyer protection and going with F+F.

  • 500% legit deal

Deon Hong has been sent to Tasmania as a convict?

    • +4

I'm guessing OP will read that but still find an excuse to proceed with the sale.

    • Damn… you would have thought paypal wouuld do nothing when under F+F and no 'buyer' protection. oh well, sounds way too risky for what it is now. It's a new replcaement handset so happy to sit on for a cash sale.

      P.S anybody wants a new/replacement galaxy fold 3 256GB? :DD (i promise i won't scam ya)

      • Was that from a warranty replacement or Samsung care+?

        • Samsung Care+

          • @Mazozb: I have the same and thinking of using my care+ too haha

Did it take long to get a replacement? When did you lodge it?

            Tyia!

            • +1

@mbck: There was some delay / shortage on the handset apparently and it took around 3-4wks for replacement to arrive. You don't ship your original until you get replacement anyway so I didn't mind. I lodged it like 2 months before the plan was about to expire.

        Interested.
I'm in TAS and happy to pay thru PayPal (family and friends option even so no seller fees,)

I bought a brand new Fold 4 a couple of months ago for $1048 for my sister so I don’t think you’ll get any genuine buyers for $950 as that is definitely overpriced.

      • So, it's a scam then. Who would have thought it?

  • Ask him what town he lives in, say you have a cousin there and ask him to pay cash to cousin.
    Post the excuses here.

    • +1

haha that's actually pretty smart and good filter.

      • +4

Not quite. Everyone in Tassie is everyone else's cousin.

  • If you think it's legit go for it and prey it is.
