Shopping in-Store Cashback via ShopBack Doesn't Convert until Next Time

I've been going to restaurants and seeing the shopback sign saying 8 to 10% cash back. I've been using the app without problems but have just now seen in the app it's not an actual cash back unless you go again the next time within three months.

So that means you only get cash back if it's a restaurant you visit often. Yes that's OK for our local places but for places in the city or if we're just visiting another suburb you're unlikely to go back within the same time and to that same restaurant rather than a different one.

This feels a bit misleading. For example if I go to a franchise in one suburb and the same franchise in a different suburb it wouldn't count. If I visit a different suburb for a large shopping centre I'm likely to try different restaurants each time I go.

I'll need to be more careful next time but what are your thoughts?

The page also says there is a 1.5 percent service fee. i'm not sure if I have been charged that.

    Yep very misleading.

Yes. When you go to Pretzel World that gives you 15% cashback, that cashback won't be given to you UNTIL you go there the 2nd time.

Learnt it the hard way and back to Liven/MemberBuy. Matchi2x is another example.

Yeah feels like a drug dealer. You have to keep going back and you'll still lose your LAST visit and pay the 1.5% fee.

I haven't heard the others, what areas do they service?

I might stick to 2% cashback hsbc card.

  • Yeah, oddly enough worked out 'ok' the last time I used it at a burger shop, since I forgot to get a drink. So only 'lost' the 10% on a drink, not all the burgers. Feels pretty dodgy that it never seems to say the process anywhere until you've used it.

    • oh does it work if you do it within same day?

Yeah I just happend to see this, thought I must have missed some fine print somewhere but I don't know :(

Instead of getting 2% cashback I'm actually paying 1.5% extra fee from a restaurant that wouldn't charge a cc fee.

    • Ooh. That's pretty smart!

  • it's quite misleading as it's not stated anywhere in the store (unless I missed it).
