Old Bose System Left When We Bought a Place - Keep?

Just bought our first home and previous owner left an old Bose V35 system.

Questions:

1/ Is it a good system to keep/use? (for TV and Xbox etc) or better buy a better system (new/2nd hand)
2/ Can it be cleaned? The surface and fabric is looking a bit dingy.

Thanks!

Had one of those, they are good as long as they still work- reselling on FB market place will get you $200-300 , but then you’ll have to unscrew the brackets which will make the wall look ugly.

This should have an optics input, which can receive signals from your TV.
From memory, Xbox one has optical output, and so does moden tvs, can’t say if Xbox x has optical output that you can use with these.

It’s white fabric, I cannot comment on cleaning side of things, sorrt

Even though I’m not a fan of Bose products, especially that speaker system, if it’s already installed and you’re happy with the sound then keep it instead of buying a new system. No point spending money on something if you already have something that will do the job and you’re happy with it.

You’re moving in so no doubt you’ll have other expenses you can put that money towards

Clean them gently, stick vacuum on the lowest setting or use a small vacuum, wipe it with a dry cloth, odds are it's mostly dust (because it's hard to get something mounted on the wall dirty)

As @Gunnar said above, give it a try and see if you like it. No point replacing it if it sounds fine to you, I made that mistake of replacing a perfectly fine setup with a "better" one and quickly realised I should have put that money towards a better TV. I don't play music out of it and don't watch enough movies to need ground shaking bass. Most of the time I game with headphones too.

Do the fabric fronts pop off?

If so, I would remove them, give them a quick swish in a soapy mix, a light agitation with a clean wide makeup brush (or similar), a quick rinse, pat dry, let them air dry completely and reinstall.

I wouldn't want them. I'd probably try to sell them or even just put them out on the patio or use in a kids room, etc.

    But that's me.

Listen to them, and if you like them, keep them. I remember selling these at David Jone's years ago, and they had their fans for sure.

    Pretty much a paperweight.

Cheaper to keep them than but a replacement if they work. To save money you could keep the speakers and buy a new receiver if you find that you need something more modern. Then later buy new speakers when you can afford them.

In general, Bose systems are pretty good. Better volume/power and clarity than most. Try it with any input and compare the volume it puts out. So should be loud even with the volume not turned up. also check re: a recall they had: https://www.bose.com.au/en_au/support/bm_safety_service.html

  • Keep it unless you have something (better) to replace it. It will probably sound heaps better than the speakers in your telly and you can hook up a Wiim pro plus to make it "smart".
