  • No longer available for me in SA

    • I could only find one store in Australia that had stocked it and would also allow me to add it to cart when this post first went up. Ended up saying "this product isn't available" anyway. Product wouldn't even appear when searching within the Bunnings site itself.

Edit - Item page no longer found.

Edit 2 - Page back up with now obtainable stock in some stores. However, most showing as no stock despite supposedly having stock.

  • Now $49.50!

Seems to be a different version of the same item.

Cable is only 1.0mm² so don't know why it's called heavy duty, you want 1.5mm² cables especially when it's 25 meters.

came here for this comment, glad i didn't waste my money

    • Isn't it 3 x 1.0mm² which is 3.0mm²?

The active, earth and neutral would all be 1mm2, but for the purpose of the voltage drop, you determine that by the active dimension (or technically by the smallest of the three), so 1mm2 holds true.

        • looking through a few other similar cables at Bunning 1.0mm² seems to be the general size for personal/home use I guess

          • @Bii: It can be, for 10A or less, shorter runs. Up at 25m, I'd almost be expecting 1.5mm though if you're at full load. I'm sure there are some Electricians in the forums who could confirm and calculate.

    • It's for marketing because there's no AS to define what is a heavy-duty cable. It could be labelled as rough-duty cable as the plastic insulation layer is thicker than standard household extension cords. For practical purposes these cables (1mm2 diameter) can handle 10A max (approximately 2400W max with Australia's 240V system). The longer the length the more voltage drop, therefore less power delivered to the device; but generally this is not a concern. Your equipment or devices will be clearly labelled how much power it needs. There is a real risk of the cable will melt and start fire if the device consumes more than 2400W (to be safe, more than 2000W of power) even for shorter lengths cables.

There are 15A and/or 1.5mm2 (or more) cables available, just more expensive to buy.

      • Most standard devices should be calculated with a safety factor i.e. 1.2 in this case it would be over 2400W

  • Ugh. Been trying to get something like this for a few weeks at a decent price. Stock levels in W.A been non-existent.

  • $27.55 with Powerpass; plenty of each colour at Chatswood NSW.

Absolute scammers! They have multiple versions at different prices.
    I got this one, https://www.bunnings.com.au/cordtech-20m-4-outlet-heavy-duty…
    $49.97
This is how its going to be now there are less hardware stores.
Specs are the same, except lengths, have a light and a cover on the outlets. The pricing doesn't justify these add-ons.
