Question about The Gap between Plasterboard and Door Trim

hi there,
this is from the last property owner renovation. it seems they put a new plasterboard on the wall. but there is a gap between door trim and plasterboard. and I can see there is a metal piece between the board and trim.
anyone know what it is?

    Looks like plaster trim.

Why do you want to know?

  • Is that a metal door frame?

Im in the middle of redoing a place and generally, it's:

Timbers, gyprock, plaster/render on joins/edges, timber door frame fitted in (nailed to timber frame), architraves to finish to cover the gaps.

10mm shadow gap, it’s an architectural design feature.

And when done correctly can look good. The execution in OP's house is questionable.

    • perfect spot for cockroaches to take refuge

    • shadow gap

      🤣🤣🤣

10mm gap and they still managed to get paint over the architraves …

Pic one looks to be a normal architectural style (shadow gap).

Pic 2 looks like poor workmanship but doesn’t show enough to see what’s going on over a wider area. Looks like the arcs are not fixed properly flush with the wall.
