        • Yes, from a regular 14. You get the dynamic island, you get the 14 Pro's 48MP cameras that are significantly better than the regular 14s old cameras, that now output 24MP photos.

Just because you can't tell the difference apart in the photos doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

          • +1

            @MrFunSocks: This is clutching:

“Just because you can't tell the difference apart in the photos doesn't mean it doesn't exist.”

Me and my sister both had 12s. I had the pro. She had the standard. I took about 8 photos exactly the same. Mine had the lidar sensor. Apparently have better focus blah blah especially in low light.

The photos were identical, and neither of us could pick a difference. As in we zoomed in trying to find blur, colours, everything. Don’t buy the hype based on information from Apple. Base it on information you get from photos.

If you need to run a computer program to tell the difference I’m not impressed and you shouldn’t be either.

            • @BusMan247: I’ve got an 11 pro, 12 mini, and 13 pro, and there was a noticeable difference in photos between each one to me.

    • +1

Just look at the demand for iPhone 15 series. even if apple just updates the color n the number series, people would still buy it.

      • From what I understand Apple had a terrible three quarters with iPhone 14/Pro series with Plus suffering terrible sales. Of course this this speculation by media and what was said on the investor calls. A lot of people think Apple held back on the 14 / 14 Pro models as they knew the US economy was already shit.

Apple’s primary revenues come from iPhones, Apple Watches and then somewhere down the list subscriptions.

MacBook Pros are so overpriced for what they are but the MacBook Air 15” - spec’ed up was/is an interesting item. But once you spec it up, you hit MacBook Pro territory. To spec up a MacBook Pro to something decent would get you a top of the line Dell/HP Laptop Workstation which is infinitely more upgradable. And doesn’t have the boot drive soldered to the motherboard.

Umm, isn’t Costco usually discounted like this? Only for those that already have a membership. You wouldn’t take on a membership just for this.

  • +1

Better off paying with a discounted gift card

  • Where can we buy JB /TGG Ultimate GC 15%? Thank you.

I’m only here for the android vs iPhone “discussion”

    • +3

      people still discuss about this?

      so 2010

    • Don’t be an “isheep” (I’m kidding)

    • But this is the year of Linux I mean Android

  • -1

LOL gotta love Apple putting gimmicky name on features that existed on Android for a long time. Dynamic island? Give me a break.

    • +6

Which Android phone attempted Dynamic Island, using UI/UX?

      • nah we prefer to bash apple just because they are popular and jealous our shitty androids are so ugly

        • Compared to the iPhone that looks the same everytime it gets updated? LMAO

          • @keejoonc: criticise them for their lack of innovation? sure! but its not apples fault their competition sucks. fix your crap UI and create some competition. no one cares about 200MP camera on a phone lol!

I take photos once a while but I USE it constantly so make a decent USEr interface. duy

            • -2

@ChatCPT: As opposed to iOS's interface which is just a long list of options on a single page? LOL
I have an iPad Mini which I only use for watching youtube in bed and iOS user interface is garbage.

    • +4

Hole cut front facing camera and dynamic island aren’t the same thing

      • -6

Sure, spin it however you like. In the end, it's nothing more than a notification bar that changes based on the content, which is nothing new.

        • +2

But, which Android phone has made feel hole cut front look like part of UI/UX? None I know of.

It also isn’t just a notification bar. But, you will disagree.

        • Somehow spoken like someone that has never used either an android phone or an iPhone with the dynamic island lol.

    • to be honest, most smart phones these days (regardless brands, androids or ios)
      doesn't have much "new features"
the annual release are mostly "better processor, better camera, better screen"
what else you can think of to make a massive improvement?

Most new functions are shipped with annual OS upgrade
and iPhones are well known in allowing older device to get new OS (a 6 years old phone still get the latest iOS 17)
while big android brands like Samsung / Google give up to 2-3 OS version upgrade only
smaller brands might not even bother to release any OS upgrade patches

      • +1

Not quite true. Samsung has been offering 4 major OS updates for most mobiles a couple of years ago, as well as 5 years of security updates. Before some people disagree with my statement, here is the official statement from Samsung:
        https://news.samsung.com/global/samsung-sets-the-new-standar…

        • +2

This only happens to newer samsung phones
my S7 can only upgrade from Android 6 to 8
my S10 can only upgrade from Android 9 to 12

Your article was only published last year

          • +1

@littlesoldier: Regardless of when it was published. It corrects your statement.

            • +2

@11112007: ok, agree that my statement is wrong for Samsung from S21 onwards (which release in 2021, not really "a couple years ago")
Samsung S9 and S10 only got 3 OS upgrades
Samsung S7 and S8 only got 2 OS upgrades

and 4 OS upgrades is still less than iOS which is my what key point is

              • @littlesoldier: People talk a lot about software updates and versioning and longevity of support, but the differences is in the platform and framework so it's not truly a fair comparison.

Android is open source, so Google publishes the new base every year which is more of a framework lift, and OEMs customize accordingly. In between, Google patches AOSP and provides those fixes to the OEMs which they build into their SMR (security maintenance releases) that are pushed monthly. Samsung, in this case, promises 5 years of security patches on all devices from date of launch. So my S23 Ultra which launched with Android 13 will get 14, 15, 16, 17, and monthly security patches all the way till 2028.

iOS updates are handled more of a need to know, and really only appear once exploits are identified and Apple fixes them. This is both good and bad, as exploits could live in the world much longer in the dark due to Apple's DCMA'ing of almost all reports that do not flow through Apple. IT admins and decision makers are not explicitly provided the CVE or patch ID to guarantee that a specific bug or exploit has been patched, other than "Trust Us". This is the overarching difference when it comes to device support and longevity.

              • -1

@littlesoldier: Fyi, the word "couple" means "two". So I stand corrected. So, yes, a couple of years ago, is 2021. Samsung S21 was released in January 2021 which is more than 2 and a half years ago.

    • +4

Jeffery Epstein had a Dynamic Island.

  • will Officeworks price match Costco?

    • Doubt because requires a membership for the price

  • Gosh phones have got ridiculously expensive, makes a laptop look cheap and all they give is a 2.3% discount

  • +10

I don't understand why android users need to hate on iphone. i am using both and find both are good in their ways. just use whatever you want

  • +3

For some reason people like to compare Apple's flagship phones with mediocre Android variants. If you want to compare, compare with flagship Android phones, they are not any cheaper. Also Android phones tend to be loaded with bloatware, becoming slow after a few months, updates typically stop after 2 years.

Some people may like to tinker and prefer Android's "open" system, but realistically there's nothing to tinker about for average users.

I have older relos who used to call me on all sorts of questions about their Android phones, those silly questions stopped after I convinced them to get iPhones. iOS is just more user friendly.

    • +1

      can't agree more
I gave my old iphone 8 (6 years) to my daughter and she still can use it daily (youtube kids, netflix etc.)
my Galaxy S9 that bought a year after cannot even run smoothly now (so laggy)

    • +1

There is a huge sub market for secondhand iPhones. It’s a massive industry. It is easy to get a cheap good iPhone,

Android aficionados don’t seem to realise that many people use their mobile phones just to make calls and run a handful of apps. The iPhone does this better than Android.

I’m a computer guy, I initially bought an Android phone, the benefits of customising a mobile phone like I do with my desktop is vastly overrated.

      • The only benefit that Android has is that they’re easier to root and therefore pirate apps.

        • -1

When Apple is forced by the EU Fascists to include a third party App Store next year Apple will get that “Benefit” for those who partake.

    • +4

Being "user friendly" is subjective for each user. Personally I find Android much more user friendly than iOS. The iOS is locked down so much that if offers little flexibility to change settings for an App as well as the phone's functionality and features.

      • -1

The phones user-friendly, you’re just not a friendly user.

    • Also Android phones tend to be loaded with bloatware, becoming slow after a few months, updates typically stop after 2 years.

Depends on what you're buying. If you're buying a comparable Android phone, you're getting at least a few years of updates and you're unlikely to see slow downs.

Some people may like to tinker and prefer Android's "open" system, but realistically there's nothing to tinker about for average users.

Probably true generally - certainly true in my experience.

I have older relos who used to call me on all sorts of questions about their Android phones, those silly questions stopped after I convinced them to get iPhones. iOS is just more user friendly.

I've had the same with a relative who bought a Mac. Tech support questions stopped - well worth it just for that. Apple's remote support process is also

  • I paid around 1200 for my 13 mini two years ago. That's the most I paid for a phone outright, and I think I want keep that as my maximum spend (maybe plus a few % a year for inflation). If that means buying not the latest model that's fine too. I love tech but phones are just not my main device.

    • The non-Pro iPhones are probably the most suited for large majorities.

The Pro is nice, better camera, better screen, better material, but at a great premium and don't mean much to most users.

  • +2

$2000 for a telephone… it's getting very sad. But as a shareholder, I nonetheless thank the plebs for buying their 5-7 year old tech at such prices.

    • 5-7 year old tech? Where?

      • +5

That person says "telephone", so they may as well say it's a 150 yo tech.

        • +1

agreed. i love how they come in here to share none sense because they are butt hurt they can't afford it.
i guess they live by the motto, "if you can't have it, bash it." lol

          • @Hugh G Rection: It's not necessarily they can't afford it. And even if, it's not just something to rub in.

There's pure cynicism in that comment ("as a shareholder"), so it's just a trolling turd throwing in their 2 pennies.

    • I thank the plebs not understanding tech investing in tech

  • T I T A N I U M

  • +1

review says it overheat too much, poor battery life… I am not religious enough to buy this at this price

  • -1

Lets be fair here, 80% of people who want this phone want to pretend they dont need an SLR and want to make a fashion statement more than care about how forward thinking their device is technically. If features and value were an argument, it'd be an instant loss. That said, to each his own. Let people enjoy things but all I'll say for myself is people shouldnt try and make it look like anything else than what I've said. It sounds like someone coping with a big purchase otherwise.

    • People also want to move away from Android, and this is the first USB C iPhone they've made.

      • Hopefully no one notices the iPhone 15 only charges at USB2 speeds despite using USB-C. Actually, they probably wont.

  • +1

No, Thanks, I am happy with my xiaomi

    • Pure ignorance - made in Asia doesn't mean cheap.

There are varying levels of quality control, engineering, QA, material used etc.

BTW, do you have a phone that isn't made in Asia with a cheaper or comparable price tag?

  • Does Costco issue out invoice in a personal name? I’ve got a business membership but I need to claim TRS refund.

Essentially can you nominate name for invoice to be made out to?

    • Might be still worth getting a new membership (and cancelling it?). The GST on these is worth more.

      • Yeah possibly but I don’t think I can be bothered doing it for the sake of $50. Also it seems to be OOS now anyway.

        • Every $1000 has $90.91 GST in it. So here it's at least $180 of GST. And Costco is supposed to refund your membership:

Additionally, if you're dissatisfied with your membership for any reason, we'll refund your membership fee in full at any time.

    • You might need to call Costco with this one.

Although a month ago I went to claim TRS refund but it was on my wife's name, they didn't care. They only checked the item and the receipt.

      Of course, YMMV.

Since when was a 2.3% saving a "good price"? lol

    • i bet you use android, lol.

      • Yes a Fold 4 1TB which I got for a cheaper price than this

        • which I got for a cheaper price than this

Which is reasonable, given the whole folding technology's longetivity hasn't been verified by consumers really.

          • @pizzaguy: My previous fold 2 was working fine when I upgraded to the 4, longitivity won't be an issue for me as I upgrade every 2-3 years anyway. My phone comes with 2 years manufacturer warranty (likely 5+ via ACL) and another extra year via my Amex card.
