Great device. Well worth the money for peace of mind and more accurate cooking

I've been watching too much Guga, need to get one for myself for that perfect steak.

Don’t forget to install Raid Shadow Legends

Non-waterproof versions can be had for ~$10 if that's more your style eg: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/285463203056

Good price but probably won’t be dead accurate and 100% will be a slow read.

  • Good but break easily.

    • I was wondering this, mine seems good but unnecessarily stiff to move the prong. Feels like it will snap one day.

      • It doesnt have a button at the back where the prong springs out?

    • This is the comment I was looking for. I have a few I bought when Coles reduced them with a label saying cancelled stock (or whatever it is they call it). A week later the hook was refilled with the very same one, same brand, no changes, just a different design of card behind the clear plastic. So I got them for about $7 each. They break easily too… I stuck the first one into a beef roast and when pulling it back out the silver tube pulled out of the unit and ripped the wire off the sensor glued inside the tube. Anyone buying this, never pull it out using only the handle. Always draw the silver tube itself out, or at the same time as the handle so it doesn't separate. One day I might find one that isn't a piece of junk. I've looked before a few years ago and even expensive ones I couldn't find one without reviews saying it physically broke or just stopped working one day.

      • The swinging prong is the weak point. The wire connecting to the circuit board isn’t soldiered well enough to withstand the movement. I resoldiered it but I am sure it will break again soon.

      • Was it this brand? I've had my inkbird one about four years with no issues yet

        • Nah it's whatever Coles sells. I was referring to how I was hoping this was better quality, but the comments strongly hint it's the same or only slightly better.

    • No problems with mine yet. Had for a couple of years.

    • I've been using one for several years without issue. I honestly don't know what you'd do to it in normal use to break it easily.

      • Just swinging the probe in and out. I took it apart and fixed it but you can see the soldier joint is very small and a weak point

  • Says 39 with 15% discount?

    • +1

You have to use the discount code OZDISCOUNT at checkout.

  • How does this go as a thermometer for aquariums?

    • +2

      Good for fried fish.

  • Wow, it features a temperature range!

    • The previous version, without one, didn't sell too well…

  • You can't Beat Meat Heat

    • +1

If your getting meat heat, then you should definitely try to slow down a bit.

  • I recently ordered a Thermopro Lightning TP622, seems to be the best non-Thermapen instant read

    • I had the TP18 and the plastic split between the probe the body after a few uses. Completely fell apart.

      • Yep the TP18 has a weak build like the entry level TP03

  • +1

    Have one, great kit

  • I don’t assume these can be left in the oven/grill with the meat?

    • Nope. And all the ones that can have reviews about them physically breaking or just stop working one day for no obvious reason.

      • What about the ones that are literally just a small metal prong that connect to your phone wirelessly?

        • +2

Yes this same brand has a pronged version with long metal cables running to the base unit, meaning the prongs can be left inside the food in the oven. Also connects to your phone. I have found the phone connection a little spotty but the temperature and alarm work as advertised.

        • I only looked at a couple of those, and that was several years back. I still saw reviews saying they just stopped working after only a few uses for no apparent reason. Back then I was nearly decided on buying a wireless one that Heston Bluementhol guy (or however it's spelled) put his name to. But a check of reviews showed the same sort of comments. I gave up at that point, decided I'd look again later. But since then I've been calculating the times myself based on recommendations online (cook for this many minutes at that temp per kg for chicken, beef, etc) together with visual appearance. One thing that's really helped is I found a halogen oven for free (air fryer but with a large glass bowl). Now the food is up on the bench where you can see it, from all angles, through the clear glass (not a bend-over, dark oven door, with a grease-splattered dim light casting shadows)… And when I saw this deal, I realised I haven't used the temp readers I got from Coles for a year or more.

          • @[Deactivated]: Those are called convection ovens, and being able to look at the outside of a steak doesn’t tell me it’s internal temp when I do a reverse sear lol

            • +1

@antik: I didn't say that now though, did I? No. I know I didn't, and you know I didn't. Now what did I really say? Yes… that's right… "…TOGETHER WITH visual appearance. Once enough time has passed i.e. "(cook for this many minutes at that temp per kg for chicken, beef, etc)" ADDED TO its visual appearance (i.e. not turning into charcoal) are together, TWO complimentary confirmations.

Now all the grownups in the room understood this. So either you need intensive reading comprehension therapy, or, you're deliberately trolling.

            • @antik: Oh and they're NOT exclusively called convection ovens: https://www.google.com/search?q=halogen+oven.

  • +1

i've got one, it's out by 7 to 15 degrees. I don't use it anymore, too unreliable

    • +2

      Have you tried recalibrating it?

  • -1

Works well as an anal thermometer

  • +2

    thought it's a finger skateboard

  • Have one of these, works pretty well but it is a little flimsy.

  • +1

I have one of these as a backup to a thermapen. Never had any issues with it. Thermapen is slightly faster at reading temps.
Magnet is handy to stick it on the fridge or side of the bbq. I think this discounted price should be the RRP.

  • updoot simply for being a meat thermometer

  • +1

@Inkbird is this deal done now? Code doesn't work in ebay

    • Yep no longer works..

  • Just note you cant use a high powered charger. Needs to be 1A or 2A usbc. Any more and nothing happens.
