Are Leaptel Planned Outages Common?

Hi all,

I recently changed to Leaptel NBN.

I got an email today about an outage at 12 am, just a few hours notice. Last week, I also received several emails about planned outages on 9/10, 26/10 & 9/111.

Do they often have planned outages?

I was with my previous retailer for years and had no issues and suddenly Leaptel has 4 planned outages in a short period of time.

If it is usual to have these many planned outages with them, I would change to a different provider. Outages are scheduled at 11 pm or 12 am but I usually stream at those times.

Thanks!

I've had two planned outages in May (12 and 30th) but nothing ever since. Unplanned not really any. Was given either 7 days or 14 days notice. Western Sydney area.

  • I’ve been with TPG and Superloop for over 5 years and only ever had 1 planned outage. I would say leaptel has issues

    • I'm with superloop and I have planned and unplanned outages on a very regular basis.

The planned outages could be related to NBN infrastructure in your area. Use this tool to check: https://www.nbnco.com.au/support/network-status

If the planned outages are specific to Leaptel then I'd consider switching to a more reliable ISP.

Yeah they're Leaptel specific in my case anyway

    • Yeah, not related to NBN.

      Thanks for the link!

Yea I gotta admit I got em a lot. A lot more than AB/Superloop/Vodafone combined.

However, that could also mean the others are just randomly crapping on you without notice while Leaptel has the decency to let you know in advance. That's because I also had downtimes with all these providers (especially Vodafone) but I just simply didn't get notice compared to Leaptel.

    • Well, I was with Optus NBN for years, and in years I only got 3 unplanned outages, an hour each maybe. None planned and only those 3 unplanned,

I don't think that there were many unplanned, I think most of the time someone is using the Wifi at home and wouldn't have noticed.

Got the same here - I complained about in a previous post on here to Leaptel and they accepted, yes, lots of outages for this particular POI - Cranbourne (which feeds a lot of SE VIC apparently)

Never had any issues on both ABB and Superloop so it's really just a matter the Leaptel network isn't as good/resilient
In saying that, it is considerably cheaper so something has to give

    • Ohh I'm in South East too. I was with Optus NBN for many years and had minimum issues but yes, they are more expensive, that's why changed to Leaptel. Now I'm sure it's them and it's often.

I will have to compare prices again and hope I can find something comparable.

      Thanks!

Yeah shop around. I was with an rsp that use to do the same thing. I ditch that RSP. They were cheaper for a reason

    • I think you may be right. They are cheaper and to be honest, only 1 disruption that probably bothered us a bit (and that's because we are still on line late at night) so tolerable I think

I am with Leaptel for the last 1.5 years on FTTP, only 3 planned outages just searching my inbox and that's not leaptels fault, most likely NBNs side.

I remember, I think only happened once or twice that leaptel was updating on their side but that happens like at 1am.

But with random outages or disconnects, rarely happens and a simple reboot of my router fixes the problem, and I assume it's my router/modem.

I am 10/10 happy with leaptel, their customer support is top as well.

Yes, they are pretty bad for having outages. I've never had that many outages on other ISPs. I'm moving away due to them.

  • Around an outage per month for the last 4 months. Prior ISPs way under this rate. Kinda annoying

    • Lucky you only get the 1 per month! I've had 3 this month alone

Mine died again tonight with an "outage" email
Can't deal with the outages anymore so just signed back up for Superloop - in my case for the sake of a little more a month
    Sorry Leaptel!

    • I am too! It's been 4 hours since I got the first email and it's still down. NBN is OK, not reporting outages so it's only with Leaptel customers, changing as well.

I signed up for superloop 5 minutes after I posted that comment, it's all up and running now!
Took about 35 minutes to come online but is working great now

So it seems to suck in Melbourne SE, but mostly fine everywhere else…Leaptels gotta up their game

          • @BLAIL: It took hours to get fixed. I sleep quite late and still no internet :(. Also checking to which company to change.

            • @Cherry12: Try Launtel - you can pay per day and also pause it for days/weeks at a time if you won't need it and can get by on mobile data alone.

  • Hmm haven't noticed too many NBN outages. I would say the issue is with Who ever Leaptel use for their NBN back hall so the connectivity between the NBN POI's and their network.
I have noticed a few Fibre outages with our wholesale providers but that will happen when someone digs up Fibre by mistake just through placing a whole in the wrong spot.
Outages can't really be avoided but if you are on FTTP you can run two providers side by side on different ports or have some sort of 4G or 5G backup either Hotspot off your phone or talk to the provider in question who should be able to provide some sort of backup solution.
Most of the time the NBN outages are to do with either NBN Co doing local maintenance in the area or with back hall providers loosing connectivity.
