IKEA Mixer Tap Warranty

I bought an IKEA Vimmern Kitchen Mixer tap in 2021 and it has started to leak. It fills up a bowl overnight. They have a 10 year warranty. I called IKEA and opened a case for the the warranty. They are telling me to:

  1. Buy a new mixer (price has increased to $179).
  2. Have it replaced by a plumber and provide IKEA with an itemised tax invoice up to $150.
  3. Return the old mixer to IKEA store for refund of original price of $169.

The issue is they would only reimburse $150 for the plumber install. I have contacted a couple of plumbers and they quoted $200+GST to replace the mixer. I asked them if they had plumbers to install for $150+GST and they suggested I advertise on Airtasker/HiPages. The mixer has had its price increased by $10 since when I bought it.

So I would be out of pocket at least $70+$10.

What are my options? Anyone else have experience with warranty for IKEA taps?

    Read their guarantee: https://www.ikea.com/au/en/files/pdf/fb/ea/fbea06fa/ikea_kit…

Note it's a guarantee, not warranty. They are different concepts people often mix-up. Using the right terminology could help you.

IKEA will examine the product and decide, at its sole discretion, if it is covered under this guarantee. If considered covered, IKEA through its own service operations, will then, at its sole discretion, replace it with the same or a comparable product.

If it is covered by this guarantee, IKEA will pay the costs of replacing it, labour and travel for staff, that IKEA incur, provided that the product is accessible for replacement without special expenditure.

That suggests to me they would be the ones organising the replacement and labour needed. There's also no set limit dictated. I would point them to their own policy.

  • If you look @ https://www.ikea.com/au/en/search/?q=iKEA%20Vimmern%20Kitche…
there seem to be "Last chance to buy" on one and "New" on the other…

So opt for the new perhaps?

one of these bad boys and maybe 30 minutes of fluffing around.

Or just get a refund, they've given you the option, take it.

    • Yep guessing the guys has gone 'bad' too.

    • Thank you for that. I ended up replacing the cartridge.

  • Remove it yourself, buy a new, better quality non IKEA mixer, install the new one yourself and then go option 3.

  • It's not super hard to replace an existing mixer tap, eapecially as you're doing like-for-like. When you go past 10 years, replace the cartridge. Vimmern has lots of 1-star reviews so might be worth choosing an alternative model.

  • I'm surprised that IKEA even covered labor cost.
