Suggestions on Laptop Deals

Hi all,

Had someone overseas request me for laptop pricing (and current laptop deals) in the Australian market (as prices in their country for electronics is quite high).

Specs they are after is just the ideal:

  • i5 or i7 (12th gen or 13th gen)
  • 1tb ssd is a must (not 256gb or 512gb as the device will be used for large storage of files for work purposes)
  • 8/16GB RAM

I've seen the Inspiron 15 deals and they seem to be quite cheap but am open to other suggestions if they work out cheaper, I also have access to education stores but have not shopped around them yet for any cheaper deals so far.

These were the inspiron 15 deals I looked at:

The individual specifically requires a windows device for work related purposes, so mac is unfortunately out of question.

Was also curious on how warranty would work and whether the products if purchased directly from a company like Dell would provide international warranty.

Looking forward to any alternative suggestions.

You don't want the OZB favourite, the M1 MacBook/Air?

    • I have a MacBook Pro for myself but the person specifically requires windows for work purposes.

Well they didn't say that. Oh you're the OP. You didn't say that.

    • Damn this is a pretty good deal, would buy this for myself if I didn't already have a macbook. Curious on how warranty would work for a product bought here and taken overseas, would there be any international warranty by any chance?

  • the device will be used for large storage of files for work purposes

This is bad practice without a backup solution. Hopefully they have something in place rather than just relying on laptop.

Worth reminding that you can claim 10% GST back if someone is travelling abroad with it so that may help too.

To be honest, I don't know their specific circumstances and how things operate around tech with their work overseas. Surely they would have either backups in cloud or network servers but they specifically asked for 1tb minimum so I'm just looking around for those.

And yep, I've done 10% GST deduction myself in the past so aware of that. Thanks

  • Can't they access the internet outside of their country?
