The only thing worth buying at RM Williams is the black and chestnuts comfort/dynamic craftsman and they're not on sale!

    • Dang it!

What's wrong with the Tan colour?

      • -1

depends if you like being heckled at the pub/workplace

      • +5

There is nothing wrong with Tan. Chestnut is more formal, and this tan is more on the casual side. There is a material difference, too. The Chestnut one is in yearling leather, and this tan one is in pull up. I don't know the difference though.

"Pull up is a finishing technique, not strictly speaking a type of leather — any kind of leather can be pull up. A popular finishing technique for top grain leather, the pull up finishing technique infuses hot oil and/or wax into the hide. The intricate finish allows for lines to form in the leather when pulled or stretched. This pulling creates the desirable “two tone effect.”" - https://stridewise.com/what-is-pull-up-leather/

          I just learned something too.

          • @whitlam: Chestnut is chrome-tanned and will not have that line effect.

      • +2

Just a colour, I didn't realise anybody cared that much. There have been plenty of times I wished I had a pair of Tan shoes because the chestnut boots were too dark to match.
That said, I'd never buy a pair without already owning the chestnut.

I have a pair from when I was in the military. They're the official parade boot of both Army and Air Force I believe. Had to pay for it, but wholesale price (about 50% off I think).

I like it and would love to get the Chestnut version too but…money

I can't decide between that and the Bacchus Marsh one…

They're part of the same line…

      • Go for the Bacchus Marsh jv. While I couldn't find it on the site I'm sure you'd look stunning in it

The RRP pricing on their website is hilarious:

The Comfort Craftsman, though not the lowest, is still not too bad either:

Not many sizes, but these polos for $15 are a good deal

    • Wish the blue and white sailor stripes were $15 too

  • RM Williams heading down the North Face route quickly.

      Up?

  • The soles of my last pair of $650 RM Williams lasted less than 12 months from working mostly in an office. I really don't trust their quality anymore.

    • +1

That's so strange mine have lasted 2 trips to Europe.

    • Leather soles I'm guessing?

    • +1

Leather soles? If they were, 12 months sounds about right, less if you walk in the rain regularly.
Rubber soles should last twice that, but then it also depends on many factors, how you walk, how often you do wear them etc.

    • What sole ?

    • +3

This makes no sense. They were either defective, in which case RMW would have repaired them free given the 12-month warranty… or you purchased with leather soles which would only be expected to last a year (at best if you're daily wearing for work).

      Soles no good man

    Friends of RMW

    Im only friends of BMW

  • What the main difference between the boots sold at Myers / David Jones for less than $200 to RMW boots that normally go on sale for $449?

    • +4

If you have to ask you can't afford. /s

      • Your comment implies it’s more of a fashion / status symbol like a Coach bag ?

      1. Australian-made (RMW) vs. Chinese/Indian sweatshop made
      2. Leather upper boots in the 100-200 range would last me less than a year of use, my first RMWs are going on to year 4 of near-daily use without so much as needing a resole yet.
      3. RMWs are incredibly comfortable compared to other dress/casual boots (in my experience anyway, I guess this is subjective but most people report the same)
      4. When your RMWs get worn down/etc. they can be readily repaired by the original manufacturer (not just soles, but pretty much every part of the shoe; elastic, tugs, heal, etc.)
      5. 3 different widths + half sizes so whilst the sizing is kinda non-standard you should get a better fit if you measure up.
      6. The single leather piece upper gives them a really clean look (ngl, this is 99% of the reason I first purchased em')
idk lots more. If you wear boots regularly I would highly recommend saving up that lil bit more and going RMWs rather then the cheaper ones that fall apart, in the long run they easily pay for themselves.

Grosby are much better then RM, Must sayin

  • For anyone looking for a boot not overpriced.
Try CNES, very happy with quality and light too. Had my pair for 2 years.

  • Would the Nanga Bag be worth it for $69 from $99?

    • These are crap bags. Put money into Country Road instead

      • country road is crap. put money into macpac instead.

Macpac don’t make cotton overnight bags

                    • -1

@tomleonhart: Are you going to actually make a point or childish comments? The guy asked if it was any good, it’s not, if he wants a cotton overnight bag the Country Road one are better, macpac plastic style duffle are completely different product. I own all of them.

                      • -1

@UberIsCool: point is CR cotton bag is rubbish. I owned 2 of them. Thanks kid.

  • Looks like the discount bin at Lowes, all the sale items are very ordinary 😩

  • +3

I own a pair of RM Craftsman and they are a great pair of shoes being well made and very comfortable. My only gripe is they're squeaky when walking around the office. In saying that, they have saved me when I've accidentally dropped a loud fart or 3 around the printer. I blamed the shoes naturally, which usually passes initial suspicion until the smell hits. But by that time i'm long gone and suspicion falls to the guide dog sleeping in the corner!

My order got canceled with no email notification.. called up and was told that there were a lot of orders that were oversold, mine included.

Whats the point of an online sale if they can't fulfil the orders?!

    • Same here, they just canceled with no notification at all.

Never thought I’d expect it from RM Williams
