inb4: Yeah, yeah, they went bankrupt, but it doesn't mean the brand and servicing options disappear.

I had an issue with one of my lids and they were relatively prompt in sending me a replacement. This was after they announced the Chapter 11. Technically they aren’t bankrupt, they are trying to trade their way out and look for a new buyer.

Chapter 11 is a type of bankruptcy where the company uses the protection of Chapter 11 to reorganise its business in order to attempt to become solvent again. They declared bankruptcy, but they didn't wind up the company.

True, but it isn’t bankruptcy like we know it in Australia.

@try2bhelpful: Fair call. At this point I think I know more about US law than I do about Aussie law :D

            • @Joker042: No probs. I think we are, pretty much, on the same page. I just think the American attitude to Chapter 11 is trade out whereas if you say bankruptcy over here it is game over.

          • @try2bhelpful: True, the basic premise around it, is that creditors are stopped from calling in your debts. It gives a company time to restructure and attempt to trade itself out of its financial position without the fear of being shut down due to insolvency.

Corelle as an umbrella corporation that owns Instant Pot, is such a huge established brand that it has enough diversification that it probably would be able to work its way out of this position. When you got brands like Pyrex and Corningware within your fold, all is not completely lost.

@FuRyZ: I do hope they survive. The stable does have some solid products within the group. Personally I think Instantpot’s problem is they just have too many variations out there. They would better off trimming the options back a tad.

              • @try2bhelpful: Good point, you are right. The brand became the most popular pressure cooker on the market on the back of the basic Duo model. Now they have so many variations that costs add up quickly. Every variation needs to sell a significant number of units to break even on its R&D and tooling costs.
