BATMAN8

This watch is stunning in person. The bracelet and watch case is very well proportioned. Definitely the cheapest you can find anywhere at the moment. Too expensive at RRP but a total steal at this price.

Citizen Series 8, 880 Mechanical Series Mens GMT Watch NB6031-56E.

The automatic 'Batman' NB6031-56E watch features a 41mm stainless steel case with a thickness of 13.5mm and an approximate weight of 165gm with a black textured dial and Sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating and water resistant rating of 100m / 10 ATM with a non screw lock crown. NB6031-56E is Made in Japan.

Visible through the NB6031-56E case back is the Series 8 GMT's movement, the Citizen 9054, an automatic 4 Hz movement that can be hacked and hand wound and also offers a local-jumping GMT function that allows the wearer to quickly jump-set the main hour hand to update to a new time zone.

This model features the GMT Caliber 9054, a new in-house movement that combines a maximum 50-hour running time with high average accuracy of -10/+20 seconds per day. Magnetic resistance of 16,000 A/m is a perfect match for today’s lifestyle. Because its accuracy is unaffected by electromagnetic field-generating devices like smartphones and tablets as close as one centimeter away, you can use it with confidence in any setting.

  • Na na na na na na na na na

    • That’s a pretty strong negative reaction. It’s just a watch. It is just a watch? Right?

    • -10/+20 , I'd want it to be cosc certified for that money !

      • That's not a bad accuracy spec, Seiko 6r is -15/+25 and they are getting expensive (2k RRP)

      • +1

They always quote the worst case scenario accuracy. Real world accuracy will almost always be way better.
COSC certification just means "you won't get a shit one out of the box".

        • No , COSC certified is -4/+6 !

    • +7

They ask you to remove all your jewelry beforehand FFS

      • +1

The real Batman wouldn’t fall for that old trick

    • +3

Thanks for the heads up, I’d better get rid of my phone too

    • +4

      Username checks out

    • +1

This one is stainless steel case too. Better be careful!

  • Heavy!

    • +7

There's that word again. Why are things so heavy in the future? Is there a problem with the Earth's gravitational pull?

  • Does CERN's Hadron Collider cause this Batman to go 'CLuNK' when activated??

    • +2

No, but Robin got penetrated by Higgs boson

  • +2

Sorry but I just can’t justify a Citizen that costs more than $1k! Like what is so special about this watch? That it would cost pretty much the same with say a swiss automatic like the Tissot Prx?

    • +1

      GMT

I think the only other GMT cheaper than this is Seiko 5 GMT.

      • +3

It’s a proper GMT too where you can move the hour hand independently.

Another Citizen GMT. The other colour variation was even cheaper in a deal posted some weeks back.

        • +1

Do you also want to compare this to some Casio digital watch that keeps over 30 world timezones ?

You're aware that Eco-drive is not a mechanical auto movement, right ?

          • +1

            @dcep:

I think the only other GMT cheaper than this is Seiko 5 GMT.

You failed to spec auto movement. Yes, I do know what Eco drive is, there's five in our household.

            • @Speckled Jim:

You failed to spec auto movement.

Sorry that i failed your comprehension competence test. Although the watch in this deal is a mechanical auto GMT doesn't even ring your bell a bit.

Yes, I do know what Eco drive is, there's five in our household.

Yet you still compare their pricing with mechanical auto GMT ? What's your point ?

Do you also want to compare Timex digital world time with solar GMT and mechanical auto GMT ?

              • @dcep: Comparable in they're
                • both Citizen
                • both steel
                • both with the fourth GMT hand

But sure, if the key feature is auto, I suppose accuracy isn't an issue, in what you wrote (as opposed to what you meant) or the watch in question:

                GMT

I think the only other ^auto GMT cheaper than this is Seiko 5 GMT.

Pagani Design makes them for <$200.

The movement is basically a Miyota 9000 series, they are their more expensive high beat 'premium' ones. Most watches with this series would be close to $1000AUD, very rarely see any watches for less than US$500 with a 9015. The 9054 is made by Miyota but exclusive to Citizen. $2250 is a reach, but the sale price is decent.

      • very rarely see any watches for less than US$500 with a 9015

        China.

      • …made by Miyota but exclusive to Citizen…

Actually, it’s worth mentioning Miyota is owned by Citizen. Source

    • Yeah 300-500$ max on special.
I don't like integrated either but can see what that are going for, similar to the prx with a 70s vibe.

    • +7

Tissot to Swiss watches is like buying a base model A-class Mercedes and telling everyone you drive a Merc. You're not lying, and they're nice but hardly worth bragging about. Citizen and Seiko have been at the forefront of watch innovation for decades. The finishing on their high end pieces put Tissot to shame. The PRX is just a basic ETA that has been slowed down to get the 80hr power reserve. This is a 4hz GMT that is made in house.

      • +2

Tissot are great, wouldn't be so quick to Knock them.
Those two Japanese brands are still better value usually, but not at RRP of course (usually aim for 50-60% off which is more realistic and common/achievable).

This citizen looks like a knock off of the Rolex submariner and prx combined. At least most Tissot, Seiko and citizen are usually fairly original in designs.

        • I'm not knocking Tissot. I'm knocking Tissot owners who think that by owning an entry level Swiss watch they are now horological royalty and Seiko and Citizen are for plebs. When in reality Tissot as a watch company is probably the same or a little below the Japanese.

          • +2

@Blargman2001: Yeah agree, they are all good choices comes down to the model. An expensive Seiko is easily as good and the Japanese brands are no doubt better value (but not at RRP lol)

  • +1

Nice looking watch, as I wear my Batman whilst typing this. -10/+20 seconds/day is not so good at this price though I reckon! Although I wish mine had anti-reflective coating at its price point.

  • The Pepsi was the same price last week. So you can expect that this price is nothing special but like other starbuy deals come every other months. The gold one is the limited edition one.

    • The gold looks amazing and was my preferred option initially. But after thinking about it, I won’t be able to pull off the Pablo Escobar look.

  • +5

Lol this is like dropping 100k on a Mazda

    • I don’t think Batman drives a Mazda — even on his days off

      • He also wouldn't be caught dead with a Citizen watch

        • Yeah I was thinking G-Shock for sure

  • $1299 for a Citizen watch … LOL

    • +4

I get it, this watch probably won’t appeal to most Ozbargainers. But a deal it definitely is, that’s why it suits the spirit of this site.

  • Waiting on the Robin to go on sale.

    • +3

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

      • There is if you jump on it without getting permission first

      • +2

Perfect opportunity WN to mention your favourite watch.

  • I really don't need this but man I love batman.

  • I'm Batman.

This watch is effectively a Rolex GMT II copy. If you're buying replicas you may as well buy a Rolex GMT II replica, a 'good' one costs about $1000 less than this Citizen. Rolex replicas today are so good even 'experts' have to go into the case to check the authenticity ('fine detail') of the movement to fault them! Won't be everyone's cup of tea however … If you want a dual time Citizen buy the Eco Drive (solar) Nighthawk (around $400), it's a dual time Citizen original (2008) and not a clone. They still make them new .. I have two, one to wear 24x7 now (since 2008) and a replacement for later (bought 2018). It's not later yet .. 😂 .. !!

    • yeah checkout Microbrands such as Cronos and San Martin for the best quality homages (copies).

    • +1

I mean sure, apart from the different case, hands, dial, indices, bracelet, clasp, bezel and crown, it's just a Rolex GMT II copy.

      • Close enough at a glance.
Wasn't the first 'pepsi' bezel really based on Pan Am colours if I'm not mistaken.
        http://i.imgur.com/IToLw.jpg

        Anyway you getting the Citizen?
I sold my PRX quartz for the same money, those integrated bracelets don't sit well (on me) with a large lug-lug.

        • Nah not this one, I'm not into GMTs.
The Fujitsubo is nice but I want the grey one.
I'm liking the price drops on the Noosa.

          • @Astronaut Joe: true, i like the idea of GMTs but don't travel enough to bother.
Dive watches tick the boxes usually for the best all rounder.

Nice will have to have a look, you mean this one, like a big turtle?
            https://watchdirect.com.au/products/seiko-prospex-australasi…
Pretty simple but nice, and good price for a 6R.

            https://hypebeast.com/2023/7/citizen-promaster-dive-automati…
Dark grey pretty good, super clean dial. I picked up that Seiko Night Vision, didn't have a black pvd watch.

I find with Citizen there are only select models that interest me, a lot of cheaper/crap in general too.
Same goes with seiko to some extent I guess.

            • @G-rig: Did you get the SB code for the Noosa?

Yeah that's the Fujitsubo I want. If you're going to have a black pvd watch, might as well make it a ripper.

              • @Astronaut Joe: Hmm it looks a lot bigger than the night vision, which fits me beautifully, pretty good for $559.

The Citizen looks like more of a grey than black but hard to tell, and titanium would be cool (if it doesn't scratch).
seems to be US$1000 at least!

      • hmm thinking about the king samurai Manta Ray, will see if i can try them on.
Pretty good for $500 and no brainer if there is a special code.
Would be the size limit for me.

  • Very ordinary looking watch for the price.

    • +1

      what is something better?

      • Search for watch on here, no end to good citizen and Seiko deals

      • +1

I'd save a buttload of money and take a punt on an Aragon GMT in Batman combo
        https://www.aragonwatch.com/DIVEMASTER_40_GMT_NH34_s/555.htm

They do the full lume or black dial. If need be, I'd be drop another $20-50 on a basic steel bracelet — you're already miles ahead.
It's "only" a Seiko NH34, but if you're not into the Aliexpress types, it's nice enough.

  • I'm sure it's a very high quality watch, but Citizen being a cost friendly brand, it's hard to justify dropping a grand on a watch wearing the badge, let alone 2 grand (RRP).

Bulova (acquired by Citizen in 2008) has many options that look way more premium.

  • +1

Ordered the other variation. Been reading and watching video. Its an amazing watch foe the money!

  • Great looking watch and Citizen should do more like it. Only thing is it has very angular lugs, masculine look. I like kind of a softer look.

    • Don't know about that, but it's a different look with a vintage influence. Shaunie rest roll. It's more like you're wearing jewellery than a watch. Comfort and conformance come secondary

  • Where is the batman theme? No logos, pictures, or even mention of the brand.

    • He’s a clandestine superhero! It’s the vibe… it’s the vibe…

    • Bezel, bro. Bezel!
