Phillips Hue Contact Sensor

For some reason the newly introduced door contact sensor for phillips hue is only sold in Europe and the US and even worse they dont seem to have any plans to introduce it to Australia (I asked them on twitter).
you can purchase it from the phillips hue online store on their us/uk website.

Obviously, you could use a forwarder to get it, but its already kind of expensive. Probably using amazon would be the best way to go, but I couldnt find it on their website, I think they might only be selling on their online store direct?
What would be the best thing to do? wait for amazon uk to sell it?

    • Im well aware of the alternate systems home assistant/tuya/smartthings etc and they all have way cheaper contact sensors. However I still just like having the genuine contact sensor from phillips that works with hue.

      • Hue sucks, their apps sucks. The whole way of setting up via scene just complicates thing. And some of the bulb is buggy with unreliable behaviour despite the great range zigbee promises. And on top of that they're overly expensive, only second to the lifx.

  • With matter integration, surely your options are getting wider.

    • yeah thats true you could get the aqara contact sensor, but I just like idea of just using hue system

      • I have a mix of hue, lifx and other stuff. I long for the day I can simply just use them together apart from basic on/off through google home.

I really need to get a HA setup but then I lose voice control in every room

        • You shouldn't lose voice control with home assistant! I have had all my various smart home devices, hue, zigbee, tuya etc including custom tasmota devices work with google home using home assistant. You just need to link HA and google assistant. The easist way is to use the paid service - https://www.nabucasa.com/config/google_assistant/

  • Did you check eBay? I notice a lot of people dropship from European amazon to australia through eBay. Kind of annoying when you choose their listing and pay more because it stated a faster delivery than Amazon, but it works out to take even longer because they are just using Amazon themselves. Been burned too many times from that, will always just choose Amazon now regardless of the estimated shipping times quoted on either.

    • yeah surprisingly no listings on ebay for it, I suppose it just came out.

  • For what it’s worth, I asked them if they had any plans to release the colour downlights in Australia and their reply was basically the same - no plans but thanks for the feedback. They released them as part of their next refresh about three months later as the Akari downlights.

    • hey thanks, that's a good point. I can't see them not eventually releasing a contact sensor here considering how popular hue stuff is in Australia.
