What Is The Best Way to Use Flybuys Points to Get Maximum Value?

I have about 100k flybuys points and wondering if anyone knows the best way to use them to get max value out?
i don't shop at Coles much or fill at Coles express. Most of the items in their reward store are over priced and gift card are useless.

You don’t eat out? I find the restaurant gift cards are great. Especially with the current bonus points offer, even better

    • Might be a good idea, but there aren't many places accepting those cards. at least in non Metro.

Have you tried? I found almost all food places accept them, restaurants, cafe, bakeries, drink stalls, even Uber eats, Menulog etc. I convert them to digital and add to my Apple Pay and they are really a breeze to use and check balance. You don’t need to ask if a place accepts them, just use like eftpos

        • Oh thanks, didn't know i could use it for Uber. might be a good idea

      what crruent bonusoffer ?

  • +2

I'm about half that amount, and also have no idea what to do with them. Nothing seems worthwhile really.

I recall they used to do 4x points value to redeem travel before, not sure if still do or even worth bothering.

Same boat , thinking will trade it all in next time there’s a virgin air points bonus promo.

    • Yeah, they don't do bonus points anymore (as much). The fuel in Shell is always 20-25c expensive vs my local servo. If i transfer to Virgin, you loose 50% value. Shopping at Aldi is much cheaper vs Coles. So need to wait till i find a solution.
Most of my points came from Coles credit card (2 points / $ spent) + Double points for team members (I used to work for coles untill last year).

  • This is my preferred way to use up the points, which is essentially 10% back in points.

Do you have power pass of flybuys?

My new pet hate at bunnings. I just want my 3/8" UNC bolts and head back to my shed FFS.

  • Buy gift cards at target & Kmart

Flybuys travel is decent for flights and hotels.Avoid the packages.

    • Didn't know they do travel. I will check it out. thanks

Not sure you could go very far on Qatar with 50K points, but more generally, if you do need to fly, converting to Virgin Velocity points will offer the most value.

For example, you can get from Melbourne to LA for 44.8K points in cattle (so 89.6K Flybuys points) plus $120-ish in taxes, a fare that typically runs to about $1.5k. There are some exceptions like deep discounted short flights where you get less than 1c pp value.

yeah i checked but when you transfer Flybuys to Virgin, you will lose 50% value. eg 2000 ($10) flybuys = 1000 ($5) virgin

Why are you looking at 1000 VFF as $5? Even on classifieds here they are 1.1c per point.

            @Fiximol: https://shop.velocityfrequentflyer.com/

I calculated the value based on what it worth in gift cards. Most giftcards requires 10000 points for $50 value.

@Dealsguri: Gift cards/ toasters are the worst conversion across all airline programs
Award redemption is usually the best..

Flybuys is ok for gift cards 1:1 conversion plus frequent bonus offers.

            • +1

@Dealsguri: But that's why I said 'if you do need to fly'. You'd never convert to Velocity points for the gift cards/toasters when you can get them through Flybuys.

You'd convert for the business class fare from Australia to Singapore for 67K Velocity points (134K Flybuys points) in business class, a fare that runs to about $2k. That sort of thing…

        • 2000 Flybuys = 1000 Velocity = $10.

i don't shop at Coles much or fill at Coles express

So how did you rack up 100k of points then?

    • Probably one off bonus from insurance.

OP as a non-Coles group shopper, should be more aware of the points expiry rule than max value.

    • I've got 300,000+ points. Also bought an ipad with $500 worth of points late last year

      Mixture of Coles insurance policy
      Coles mastercard

but the main point accumulation method is those 10,000 points on X amount of spend over 4 weeks

I have coles credit card which gave me 2 points per $1 spent + i use to get double points because i used to work for the group.

  • Even if you don't need to buy groceries you will still need to buy petrol for your new car.

    gift card are useless.

Gift cards to coles and kmart are useless. Right.

  • sell gc's for cash ?

  • I received a common Coles offer - Spend $60 & get 2000 flybuy points. Does paying the $60+ with flybuy dollars still qualify?
