Unfortunately the ball still says Taylormade in English (packaging has Japanese)
Would be great if they were written in Katakana

Thanks OP - I'm looking forward to people stealing these when I'm on the opposite fairway

Golf is a rich man's game. Is there any subsidy for low income earners to learn this game?

    • +5

Green fees aren’t unreasonable and golf clubs can be cheap. Source: I’m definitely not rich and golf.

Nah I disagree. Let's list the bare necessities to play and improve at the sport.

$20-35 for 9 holes, if you want to improve you will probs play once every 1-2 weeks
Golf balls.$0.5 each second hand, will need a lot when starting
Beginners golf set 2nd hand $100-200
If you want to practice its about $20 for 100 balls at golf range

To the average person that is a decent amount of money compared to other sports.

Let's compare with basketball. Basketball cost for a beginners ball $30. That's it. Go find a half court in a park for practice and go find a free social court for pick up games. You could play every day for free.

I play both and golf is an expensive sport. It is for the more well off or less frugal demographic.

Cash converters $10 for one club and a few used balls. Walk to local park and hit.

If you are a basketballer you absolutely need $300 for a pair of Jordans

If you’re broke. Golf ain’t the sport. I agree there, but the person above says you need to be rich to play which you absolutely don’t.

All my gear is second hand (FB market & cumtree).
I go to the driving range whenever I can ($18 for 110 balls).
I bought a bird next, gym matt and fake turf so that I can practice hitting balls in my garage. I'll send a photo and bunnings links if you're curious.
I highly recommend :D. its fun and addictive.

      • Bird next? Sounds like an awesome setup. Photos please.

        • Oops. Meant to say Bird net

        • I think he's taking hitting a birdie quite literally :D

Buy second hand golf balls, second hand clubs, play at council courses. Golf isn’t that inaccessible in Australia

    • Its not that inaccessible if youre willing to go second hand for everything, but it has a much higher ceiling for equipment than lots of other sports unfortunately.

You're still going to be spending a lot less to play practically any other sport, and if youre strapped for cash I would not recommend getting into golf.
