Best Step up from iPhone XR for Least $ (Refurb)

Any thoughts on what the best upgrade from XR is for the least amount of money? Looking at refurbished.

My XR is in bad shape and the 128 storage is too small. I would love to get an upgrade but cannot afford a big expense until 2024/25 yr or after.

Also, any recommendations on which refurbisher supplier?

Many thanks in advance :)

Sticking with apple or looking at android too? What's your budget? $100? $500?

Apple - 12 mini. Same hardware as the 12, much lower price (mediocre battery life though)
Android - probably Pixel 6a or Pixel 7 with a stretched budget. Pixel 6a was $340 new recently and is a decent phone.

    • Agree- whether you’re wedded to iPhone or happy to go android is info we’d need

But I will just quickly say my wife and I have a 12 mini and 12 pro respectively and they still run excellently with no real lag or slowdown etc

might be worth checking out the refurb sale on ebay.

The new SE will probably be the one to get, it's going to finally get the iPhone 12 form factor. If rumours are to be believed…

    • Rumours also say the next SE might not come out until 2025. At the very least it's probably a 12 month wait for it.

      • Yeah that might be too long of a wait.

    • Prob worth mentioning that the SEs are always still bit overpriced at launch (that is to say, they’re still cheaper but not as cheap as the chip-equivalent old iphones they’re matching)

iPhone 13 used would be the best upgrade, wouldn’t recommend the iPhone 12 regualar or 12/13 mini due to poor battery lift

Lowest cost upgrade from XR (A12 Bionic) is 11 (A13 Bionic), same size display with an extra camera. Choose a returb reseller that has their own stock. I've found the marketplaces aren't as consistent with their gradings.

I would haunt eBay. I worry about the gradings of used phones on sites like Kogan.

So far I've found Phonebot and OzMobiles to be consistent wth theirs. Last month I got a phone from Reebelo (a marketplace, like Kogan), but it was a low-cost 8 so couldn't be bothered sending it back. Cashies grading tends to be inaccurate, but I do purchase from them where I can inspect the merch.

The most cost effective and significant would be 12. 12 had the major body update. iOS support until 2027.
