Is it just me or have chips gone up more than any other supermarket item. I mean potatoes are still cheap as chips…

    • +6

Yup. All in the name of the famed potato shortage.

Frozen chips is like now $3.40 for supermarket brand. Before the shortage $2.

5kg of washed potatos are going around $5 (saw them massively reduced yesterday at $2) so they are minting it now.

yeah…but people are time poor as hell now - they got us by the short and curly (fries) now.

Actually I just cut it into thick fries. Toss with oil then put in air fryer for like 30 minutes. Close enough is good enough.

On the net apparently you either boil or pressure cook it so the inside gets a bit mashy then you oil fry or air fry.

    • Apparently the increased cost of gas and fuel are contributing.

      • +5

They would like you to think that. Not 50% increase.

If you got solar use it for oil frying would be better than gas during the day.

Fuel - we are a lot less fuel intensive per unit of GDP than we were for a long time.

Fyi, these are 165gram packs where the Aldi Black Stone packs are 200grams for $2.99.

My go to flavour is salt and vinegar and I'm actually prefering Aldi version now.

    • +3

If Aldi are offering (free prime) delivery to my door then sounds good, but otherwise i'm not going to Aldi, suddenly its a whole lot of effort and time and petrol money for a bag of chips.

      • +1

yep totally agree, nothing beats free delivery

  • Kettle > aldi >> red rock. Varies from packet to packet, but I've had some practically unseasoned red rock bags.

Ingredients include NATURAL COLOURS (COCHINEAL, CARAMEL, PAPRIKA EXTRACT).
Just found out that Cochineal is an insect!
