  • I bought this and a 5000 grit when I was in Japan. great stones

do you remember how much they were? i'm going japan soon and if its similar to this price I might just buy it off amazon.
Also did you get another sharpening related things e.g. flattening stones

$82 for both. Although, I created a free one month Amazon JP over there, used the hotel address to create it. Then I ordered it to pickup from Familymart (there is plenty of them everywhere). This was cheaper than the knife stores.
I didn't get any flattening stones as they were too expensive!

  • That was hard to read.

  • Is it worth getting if I already have a kings 1000?

    • Shapton is better quality from what I have been told, but if you have 1000 already no need till it broken.

    • It’s harder so has a bit less slurry, will dish out slower than the King, and I expect would be a little easier to learn on.

Probably not worth the upgrade if you have a king already, but if someone is picking between this and the often-recommended King 1000, this is a better choice

  • Hi brains trust, for newbie starting out, what else would you need in addition to this for general home kitchen use. Tia

I'd recommend a holder. Lifts it up a bit and more stable. Also a leather strop. Can get from Amazon for about $30 with a polishing compound. And angle guide.

  • Tempted to get this but already got a WorkSharp Precision Adjust a while back, any point in getting this as well?
