Advice / Recommendations on Gazebo

Hello All,

I have made a backyard bench in L (4*2.6m) shape and planning to have a roof on top of it. I got quotes for pergola and the cheapest quote was $4500. It is way out of my budget. In some of the camping sites I have seen permanently installed gazebos. Wondering if you can recommend me any strong and sturdy ones as am planning to keep it all year round.

If gazebo is not a good idea then any alternative? Bench is at the fencing corner, 2 inches away from the fence.

Thanks in advance.

I have seen Bunnings selling them and so does Costco. Have a look and see if the size, looks, etc. work for you. You might be able to save heaps by DIY. Buying second hand from FBM, Gumtree is another option.

As in one of those fold down camping gazebos? If that’s the case, Whatever you buy better make sure it’s UV rated

Those temporary folding gazebos are rubbish.
Got a bit of wind and they will bend, brake, and blow away.
UV and weather will have them deteriorate in front of your eyes. Give it a couple of months and it will be dilapidated.

If you want it to last, then get it done properly from the start. It will cost more, but will save you a headache later on.
Unless you know what you are doing, then this is not something that you should try yourself. If not done properly, larger winds could rip it apart and send debris flying through your neighborhood, putting peoples lives at risk. Make sure it is done properly.

  • What about a giant umbrella anchored into the ground.

    • Yep, I'd consider cantilever umbrella as it's more suited to being repeatedly up/down. A camping gazebo will get blown away unless you're prepared to store is collapsed.

  • Just looking to replace a cheapy myself, had it for a few years, Instahut brand and it has been pretty good, be it wind, rain or sun. Sure, it's not rugged, but with care and properly installed you'll find even the $100 jobs will last you a few summers. I think it's more having people to help you put it up, as it doesn't enjoy being erected by 1 person, places much strain on the legs and you'll find that you'll quickly do damage. Like everything you buy what you can afford, just saying the cheap one's aren't all crap.
