How to Sell a Car in Sydney?

I haven't sold a car before so looking for a advice to get a best outcome.

My car is only worth $7k so would be looking to get cash payment. Looking for some guidance on the following points.

  • Where should I advertise it?

    • Should I get the potential buyer to visit home or meet somewhere in the middle? I don't want any follow up from the buyer if they developed any fault down the line and blame me.
  • How to tackle someone who wants to do test drive but drive like a sports car?

    • Who is responsible for damage if the test drivers commits an accident?

    • Any other things to be mindful of? I know I should lodge notice of disposal straight away.

    Sir, What's your last price?

  • Marketplace or gumtree. Expect lowballers. Go with anyone on a test drive.

    • and see they have a licence with them before they/you drive

  • Ive sold around 5 cars through carsales, never had an issue, did one 2 weeks ago, there was no bullshit messages, the first person that contacted me purchased the vehicle.

How much were the cars worth?

OP car is 7k. That's the most cancerous price point on Gumtree and FBM.

Get messages from car flippers offering half of that.

I find cars over 25-30k don't get much shitkickers or car flippers. Mostly genuine inquries

      • I've had people offer me 60% off my $60k car listed price.

I think biggest laugh I had was someone who begged me to give them a payment plan which they'll "definitely pay".

Pests will be everywhere because it's cheap to ask. You just ignore their messages.

        • Sure, but you keep the car until the payment plan is 100% paid off ;-)

      • Fair call, the last 2 were 22 and 25k. I just assume with carsales people are looking for your specific vehicle so you get less shitkickers.

Wherever you advertise, please spend time writing the ad and include as much info as possible. Maybe add that 'low ball offers won't be responded to' or something like that. You'll still get them, but at least you won't feel the need to reply.

Carsales if you don't mind paying. Marketplace if you don't mind dealing with more idiots.

Pet hate of mine is one dodgy photo and ‘inbox for info’. I tend to waste these people’s time when I’m bored. Ask a few simple questions that should have been in the listing then ghost them.

      • Yep, post a crap ad, expects crap responses. Being able to sell something is a skill lacking in many.

  • Meet at your home, i'd push for cash only in this instance, complete the transfer there and then so you're not stuck with them driving your car for weeks wracking up fines.

Marketplace & Gumtree for ya - Carsales will be a waste of time.

  • The at fault driver is responsible for damage

Does your insurer allow for test drives?

Never ever get out the car and leave the keys in the car, even for one second

Look at their driver licence and take note of the details

I sold my motor bike last Month.

I had it advertised on FB for 3 months and had lots of time waters. Then i spent $50 to list on bike sale but next day someone on FB messaged me. I spoke to him for 5 mins and he sent $5k to my account in next 10 mins. I was so surprised but to protect myself I moved money immediately to another account and left that account with 0 balance. Few hours later we met at local park and I transferred the bike to his name on Service NSW website.
I already had pink slip done couple of days ago.

    • Marketplace is weird. Get nothing for ages and then all of a sudden get several responses in a few days.

  • Facebook marketplace.
I advertised our 2000 Mazda 323 on Saturday. Sold within 3 hours.

  • i usually find a person that needs my car
