Has Anyone Resolved This Foxtel Error on Chromecast before (Playback Error PE8002) ?

Hi all

I recently bought a Chromecast 4K for my parents so they can watch Netflix and Foxtel in the bedroom instead of their lounge room. Their bedroom TV is a 17-year old standard-definition plasma (LG 42PX4DV).

Unfortunately, while Netflix works, whenever I try to stream a movie or show on the Foxtel app (I can still browse) the following playback error appears:

"Playback error

Please navigate to the Home screen and try again. Or unplug and plug in the power cord to restart the device. (PE8002)"

I've tried each of the (obvious) troubleshooting steps that Foxtel Support has walked me through (uninstalling and reinstalling the Foxtel app, resetting the Foxtel unit, resetting the Chromecast device, disconnecting from and reconnecting to the Foxtel account, restarting our modem/router) to no avail.

This is not a Chromecast error: https://www.google.com/search?q=PE8002

    (PE8002): DRM decoding error

It's probably Murdoch wanting you to get a TV with HDCP 2.2

    • I've thought about this (not having HDCP 2.2 built in - it's a 15 year old plasma - but why does Netflix still work? Would getting a Chromecast HD instead do the trick?)

Foxtel has a long history of piracy paranoia.

  • This Foxtel is an app in Chromecast or elsewhere? If you haven't installed yet, they do have an app to install. If it's an app already in your Chromecast, try uninstall and reinstall the Foxtel app?

    • App in Chromecast. Have tried uninstalling and reinstalling.

Ok. Before you uninstall, try to clear app data first. Setting, app then Foxtel do both clear data and clear cache then uninstall app and reinstall.

    Streamotion sucks is the issue.

    • This has nothing to do with Streamotion. They provide Kayo, Binge and the dying Flash News service only. Foxtel still do Foxtel Go / Foxtel Now on their own.

Can they cancel Foxtel and watch the shows on another service?

  • Did you find a resolution to this? I'm having the same issue and foxtel support are no help.

    • It seems the error was due to the TV being so old it predated HDCP, which Foxtel didn't like. According to the internet, some folks have had luck getting around this issue with a HDMI splitter. We ultimately just swapped the TV out with a newer, HDCP-equipped one from a different room.
