Question on HSBC Platinum Credit Card Lounge Access for Additional Card Holder?

Hi everyone,

Question about lounge access at Melbourne airport, I am the primary card holder of a HSBC Platinum Visa credit card, which has 2 airport lounge passes, unfortunately I won't be traveling with my partner who is the additional card holder. Was wondering if anyone tried as the additional card holder making use of the airport lounges at Melbourne airport, or if the additional card holder can swipe the primary card (not sure if they check the names)?

Thanks very much in advance.

  • Loungekey is only available to the primary cardholder but I dont have experience with swiping the primary's card as the secondary. following to see if anyone has tried.

    • Thanks for your comment @thorntonchan, I checked the Loungekey website which they mentioned about a pass, but when I asked the HSBC team, they said the lounges would just swipe the credit card for entry, so quite lost what that means. Have you had experience using this option as a primary card holder?

Im not knowledgeable in how their system works, sorry - I only know that your credit card is the pass and that it can be used twice in the calendar year (i.e. you show them your credit card, they swipe it and let you in. I have seen the entry fee charged to my card for certain lounges before being refunded by HSBC).

Regarding the additional cardholder, according to the T&C's they should not be eligible, though this might not be strict or dependent on the lounge. I have a flight this coming Wednesday and will try to run an experiment myself.

@Shortee: forgot to reply. I went to the Skyteam lounge in SYD. The guy at the front desk said that it should work for the additional cardholder (he was also unsure, I didn't want to confirm this because it could bill the card after the swipe). If you're planning to use the primary card, they can check the card name against the boarding pass although this is not strict and really depends on the receptionist (he said he usually doesn't bother).
