  • reduced in volume by more than 30%, and weight by 18% and 24%

Need to be at least 50pct in all figures

Why would anyone need a blueray drive these days?

To save 30% on physical games vs online store, 4K media and well to trade in games…

Pays it self off over a couple games

Too bad it's still an eyesore

To save 30% on physical games

Even more than this if you borrow a game (or plenty) from friends and family, as well as the 2nd hand market. Both of which you'd be entirely locked out of without a disc drive

    • I watch 4k Ultra BR often - the quality is remarkedly better than streaming. Have been watching Green Planet II and it supports Dolby Atmos

Is it only me or is it really looking almost the same as the current model???

So it's 3cm shorter, and 1cm narrower. WOW SO SLIM. This should have been what they released originally honestly, with the detachable drive. Just makes more sense.

Did they even try? 3 years after launch and it is still a monstrosity.

Still so huge and stupid looking and price going up lol GG soyny

Seems to be the new norm with modern consoles, just look at the nintendo switch, 6 years old now and barely any movement in price.

      • the reason is that they dont have to lower prices

Nintendo have no competition and Sony have very very weak competition from Microsoft.

        So why reduce prices?

  • I guess that's why all the sales and retailers are price matching each other…. slim is coming soon.

Yep, this is replacing the current unit.

My question is mainly on the UHD Drive. Will it region free and will it have a better 5.1 support?

Because at the moment, whenever I want to watch Netflix, my XBox One gives me 5.1 but becomes 2.1 when played with PS5.

    • UHD BR movies are region free.

But I am curious if the UHD BR drive is (Universally) Region free for standard BR movies.

I think the the UHD BR drive would be Region Free, but the limiting factor would be the PS5 OS which would implement region lock out for region coded BR movies.

      • Almost all 4K Blu-rays are region free but you do get the odd one here and there.

        • True. It's the standard BR movies that are region coded.

  • I was waiting for the Slim, but since this isn't that slim, I guess I'll buy the current model. Unfortunately, they all went back to $799.

Will they come back down to the 600's before the current model is all sold out?

    • I never thought I would say this but I think the current model looks better. I don't know what the point of this was. I am confident it will drop again.

    • Well… black Friday is around the corner.

  • Where's that PS5 Pro……..

    • that's allegedly 18 months away at least
