Anbernic RG35XX vs Miyoo Mini/Mini+ vs Powkiddy RGB20S

I’m after a portable emulator and the 3 I’ve been looking at - Anbernic RG35XX, Miyoo Mini or Mini+ and Powkiddy RGB20S are all roughly the same price.

I’ve found objective spec comparisons online, but that doesn’t give subjective information about how well they perform or even how comfortable they are to hold.

Any recommendation as to which I should be going with. Does anyone own one and have pros/cons? I’m currently running RetroArch via Steam on an Atari VCS, which works flawlessly, however I want portability.

  • All of them aren't great for ergonomics, need a horizontal one with curves.

  • I only have a miyoo mini plus, so can’t speak to the others;

    • it’s a bit small to hold in large hands (I get cramps after a while)
    • it plays most early console games really well - up to PlayStation generation / maybe a 486 in dos box, but doesn’t have a 3D hardware chip so is somewhat limited by that
    • has great battery life
    • poor speaker

You can upgrade the os to a third party “onion os”, but it’s perfectly functional stock

    • Similar response to my RG35XX, though it is a little bigger than the Miyoo and is comfortable to use like the old Gameboy was. GarlicOS makes it run better, along with new SD cards.

      • poor speaker

You can also upgrade the speakers with OEM Sony Xperia/Redmi Note speakers from AliExpress - Refer to this video

  • Is no one not absolutely pumped for the miyoo flip?

    • Is that the one that looks like a GameBoy Advance SP, but with analog sticks? Any idea of release date? All I can find is leaked images on Discord.

I recommend watching Retro Game Corps on YouTube. He gives very detailed feedback on them and often does comparison videos as well.

I have an original Odin Pro, but I'm thinking of selling that and getting an RG405M or a Miyoo Mini+ instead. The Odin is kinda big and I realize isn't so great for busting out during train travels :(

You really need to feel them. To see how you like it.

      • Does anyone in Australia retail them where that’s possible? I’m looking on like eBay, Ali and Temu :(

        • They're that cheap, buy, play, test and re-gift if you want to try something else.

Ali is fine. I've ordered RG35XX as gifts and had them arrive within 1-2 weeks.

        • Marketplace I guess seen some.

    • Thanks, that’s very helpful.

Not sure why that didn’t turn up in a Google search though. The mustn’t have keyword stuffed lol

RG35XX (GarlicOS) owner. It plays most games well and the screen is amazing. However, due to the small form factor, it is very tiring to hold over a prolong period. If you have a 3D printer, you can print a housing with handles which does help with ergonomics.

  • I've got an Anbernic RG35XX, it's great, definitely the pick of those 3. GarlicOS is a must and pretty simple to install.

That said I upgraded recently to a RG505 which is superior in just about everyway.

  • Been thinking about grabbing one of these for work travel/trips, i was leaning towards Powkiddy due to dual sticks.

    • Would the dual sticks only be for PS1 games?

I was looking at the Powkiddy because it has 1gb RAM, as opposed to the 128mb/256mb of the other models.
